    PLANET - Matty Took

    PLANET - Matty Took

Matty Took is the frontman of Sydney based band PLANET.
The guys released their second EP, ‘Maybe Someday’, in April 2020, which heated up the airways with singles ‘Imaginary’,‘ Never New’ and ‘Reason Why’.
I had the pleasure of meeting Matty face to face in June 2021, just a couple of weeks before we headed back into lockdown here in Sydney.
We chat about some of Matty’s favourite gigs, being part of Sydney’s live scene, playing in bands with his brother Johnny, who many of you will know from the DMAs, and also what’s next for Matty and PLANET.
We also discuss why their unique sound has captured the attention of the U.K, which has been helped with support from “This Feeling" and Radio XFM.
This episode is actually our last for series 1, it was always my intention to wrap up after 12 episodes, as I wanted the opportunity to reflect and take stock of all the incredible conversations to date. Don’t worry, we will definitely be back for series 2, so would love to hear from you if there is anyone you would like me to interview next drop me a message on social media or via the website.
A massive thank you to everyone who has helped book guests and also all of you lot for listening and supporting the show, it has been a huge passion project for me and it has been a true privilege to listen to, and share so many great live music stories.

The Skinner Brothers - Zac Skinner

The Skinner Brothers - Zac Skinner

Zac Skinner is the frontman and songwriter from the hotly-tipped UK band, The Skinner Brothers.
We had a really open and honest conversation about the realities of trying to forge out a career in music and that it isn’t always like you read in the books.  The journey makes for some very funny stories, especially as Zac was trying to put the band together in a new city, with limited contacts and an aversion to technology that included no mobile phone.
Thankfully Zac started embracing the technology, and in a short period of time the band has created an impressive catalogue of tunes blending genres and style.
Zac talks about how the sound of the band has evolved to what you hear on the huge new EP Iconic - undoubtedly one of my favourite releases last year - and how the band have been busy fine tuning the live set for up and coming sold out shows at the legendary 100 Club, as well as support slots with The Music and The Streets.
Zac has an interesting take on live music and a few of his answers may surprise you but again are honest and straight from the heart.
The Skinner Brothers released their latest EP called ‘Iconic’ in May 2021 that includes the huge title hit ‘Iconic’, check out the official video here.

Hot Dub Time Machine - Tom Lowndes

Hot Dub Time Machine - Tom Lowndes

Tom Lowndes is the mastermind DJ behind global sensation Hot Dub Time Machine.
The time travelling dance party was born in 2011 when Tom was looking to align a story and concept to his DJ act when performing at fringe festivals in Australia.
Popularity quickly grew and it wasn’t long until he was travelling the world as a stand-out festival act

His popularity quickly grew and it wasn’t long until he was travelling the world as a stand-out festival act at the likes of Coachella, Splendour in the Grass, Reading and Leeds to name but a few. Tom is ramping up the live shows again this year, igniting audiences across Australia with an action-packed, high-energy musical journey through decades and genres.
Tom’s dedication to the live Hot Dub shows is undeniable. It’s not just a case of showing up and spinning a few records, there is meticulous planning, enhancing and remixing of tracks, endless hours of video editing and unwavering commitment to embracing as many live elements as possible. The end result is, what he describes as the BEST. PARTY. EVER.
In this week’s episode, I chat to Tom about the creative process that led to Hot Dub Time Machine, what it was like playing a wheelie bin on the streets of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the story behind his very own festival Hot Dub Wine Machine. Of course, we end the conversation as we always do, about why live music is so important.

Since its inception in 2014, The Priory Bar has been a breeding ground for emerging UK talent, with Gerry Cinnamon, Baby Strange, The Dunts, Voodoos, Gallus, The Van T’s and many more all cutting their teeth at the Sauchiehall Street institution.
The bar is built on Jokey's unwavering commitment to emerging talent, providing a safe place for creativity and the fair treatment of bands. The stage is basically in the crowd, the energy is always high and there is a strong, close-knit community that surrounds it.
During our chat, Jokey gives us insight into how the idea of Priory first came about and admits that it is almost impossible to call out stand out nights in the bar as there are so many.  We also discuss the impact COVID has had on the venue and the bands that play there, and how non other than Liam Gallagher stepped in to help.
Jokey also gives us insight into the management side of things and how Voodoos and Gallus are both navigating their way through these challenging times .
One of Jokey’s best live music experiences involves a surreal story about being on the roof of the Barrowlands with his good friend Johnny Took from the DMA’s after one of their stand out gigs in the famous venue.
And of course we end the conversation as we always do by learning why Jokey thinks live music is so important.

Live like you love love love it!

Finally a music based podcast capturing the real emotion about why live music is so important!

We don’t just hear from the band members but everyone involved in putting the gigs together.

I love the one of Live music sessions on them as well as the honest and real reaction the host manages to get from everyone. He really builds up and relationship with them and we get to go along for the ride.

Delighted to have found this and can’t wait for many more.
