Talks with a TCK Friend Marie Suazo

Had to sit on the topic of speaking up for yourself after this podcast. My guest Alberto joins me as he speaks about his experience on the topic and how he speaks to his kids about it as well.



Alberto was born in the USA to immigrant parents (Brazil and Egypt) and began to travel as young as 6 months old. His dad was a corporate nomad, so every 2 years, they'd pack up their home and move to a different country. He is a dad of two sons and moved them to Mexico when they were in elementary school. That was a lot more difficult than he thought it was since he thought all kids are "resilient." Alberto a teacher and work at a private international school.

Job hunting on it's own can tough enough, but adding a layer of being a TCK adds another layer of chaos. In today's podcast we are joined by Tanya, a fellow TCK and an International Career coach, who shares her story of navigating through finding her career and giving us practical tips in the process of searching for jobs.


Tanya Podvrsan, international career coach and recruiter, empowers individuals, leaders, and teams within French startups for more than two decades.

Currently, she trains and coaches in French, English and Slovene individuals, managers, and executives in their job search/recruitment navigation globally.

Tanya is also active in the local Kodiko Association for refugee job search, promoting training and coaching in an untapped talent.

She's an American-Slovene and lives in Strasbourg France.

To be seen and heard is a struggle most TCKs go through thinking their existence can be overshadowed by what their parents do. In this conversation we talk about what it means to feel heard and how our experiences molded us to be who we are today.




Michael is an American by passport. He grew up as an MK from Chiang Mai, Thailand and served the US Navy for 12 years. He have a wonderful wife and 4 kids and they are home based in Cebu, Philippines. He is currently an aspiring author and TCK podcaster working as a goodwill ambassador for the US Department of State in Isparta, Turkiye at Süleyman Demirel University as an English instructor.

Our guest today talks about her experience of what it's been like to be a teacher (among other things) to TCKs at different international schools, what it's like to move her family across the globe and the different joys and struggles she has faced in in her journey.




Amy is originally from the corn fields of Illinois, USA, became an adult and made a family in the beautiful mountains of Venezuela, currently living in the lovely warmth of Malaysia. My passion has always been student care, but this has expanded over the years to caring for not only students but their teachers and their parents as well. I will always be a barista at heart and my favourite place is sitting in a café enjoying live music.

Ever wanted to travel with your pets, but didn't know where to begin? In today's episode our guest Emily Wilson will be joining us as she talks about how she hops around the globe with her furry friends.




Emily is a TCK who went back and forth between California and South Africa, she and her family treated our jack russell like family. He came with them on their travels. So, when she got my first dog as an adult , it made complete sense to bring her from Kenya back to California and a few years later she went with them to Ecuador before returning to California.
