    On this episode of the Melaninwhitecoats Podcast, Dr Triggs discusses his journey toward his passions of plastic surgery. He dispels the myth that plastic surgery is only aesthetics and talks about the multi encompassing fields of plastic surgery. Nonetheless, he includes how he navigated trailblazing the field of plastic surgery as the first BLACK chief resident of plastic surgery at USF ( University of South Florida). We also discuss how the standards of beauty by the media has affected plastic surgery as a field and how his decisions to create a foundation for his future led to him working in an underserved area in rural ohio.     Physician Advocacy with the Chronicles of Women in White Coats 2

    On this episode of the Melaninwhitecoats Podcast, Dr. Jennifer Davis, who is a pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist who has been working with children and adolescents in the South Bronx for the past 10 years and our other guest Dr. Kat Ogle, who is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician, currently practicing at The George Washington University Hospital, Washington VA Medical Center and United Medical Center in Washington, DC  both discuss their views on the importance of physician advocacy work. They discuss how their specific experiences called for them to educate not only themselves but others about micro aggressions, institutional racism and the biases that come with being in a medical culture. They also elaborate on some of the experiences women in medicine face and how to potentially circumvent such instances into positive outcomes. Last, they discuss how empowerment has helped galvanized them toward success in their respective fields and share the importance of the movement of the Chronicles of Women in White Coats 2.

    Let's talk about Mental Health! Dealing with the consequence of COVID 19 on adolescent and physician wellness!

    On episode 26 of the melaninwhitecoats podcast, we have a special guest, Dr Ramsey an adolescent fellow at Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C talk about the realities of adolescent medicine and mental health during the pandemic. She enlightens us about some particular experiences which affects the adolescent population and contributes what are ways to combat some mental health issues. She also talks about mental health disparities which affect adolescents around the globe and what spurred her interest into such. She displays her passions for a unique subset within pediatrics and the importance of highlighting the difficulties they face. Not only does she discuss her concerns about the patients she sees daily but she also discusses her concerns about physician mental health during the pandemics and importance of accessing resources as a healthcare professional.
