    51.Domestic Violence & Military Life

    51.Domestic Violence & Military Life

In this weeks episode, as part of Domestic Violence Prevention month, I talk to Domestic Violence Case Manager and Military spouse Jess about the cycle of violence DV victims experience and how military life sometimes adds to the isolation they go through. We also talk about how a spouse can safely leave a DV relationship, what supports they can access and why DV victims can't "just leave" an abusive relationship.

I also talk with former spouse Sarah who has recently left a 15 year abusive relationship. Sarah walks us through her DV experience. She talks about the red flags she didn't recognise, how alone she sometimes felt, why & how she finally left, the support she accessed and her life now.

Please note: Sarah's name and voice have been changed to protect her families identity.

Must listen to this podcast!!

Just listened to episode 51 and I wish I had written a review sooner! I’ve listened to every single episode and it wasn’t until now that I realised how important it is as a partner of anyone in the military should listen to this show. The topics Beck discusses with her guests are relevant, meaningful and it’s has been the most informative in terms of what your entitled to in Defense life. I cannot express how much you need to listen to this podcast!!!!!!

Amazing Beck, it’s just such a brilliant podcast and the support systems you’ve built are so essential!

Makes navigating this new life a bit easier.

I’m very new to military life, like less than 6 months new. Having this podcast to breathe to has made this period of change that bit easier. The periods of uncertainty and not knowing when you’ll hear from your partner, not knowing anyone in the military community yet to have an understanding ear or guide, all the questions with no idea where to look to find the answers.. you name it. This podcast takes that bit of excess weight off your shoulders that you need to keep going. You feel less isolated and less foolish. Honestly, I wish I’d known of this podcast through the enlistment stages too. It just takes some of that mental burden away. Thankyou 🤍

Like having a cup of coffee with a friend!

Thanks so much to Bec & her guests for opening up and sharing their stories. Having gone through 2 deployments in my first 2 years of being a defence partner and not having many other defence partners in my life for support, discovering the MWL podcast has been a huge help to me. I so enjoy listening each week, it really feels like sitting down with a friend over a cup of coffee and sighing with relief afterwards that there are other people who “get it.” Thank you!
