The Disappearance of Everett Ruess ft. Locations Unknown

The Disappearance of Everett Ruess ft. Locations Unknown

Today we are joined by Mike and Joe, hosts of the Locations Unknown Podcast, as we dive into one of Utah's greatest enduring mysteries. Everett Ruess was a poet, artist, and writer who had dreams of leaving modern society behind to live in and explore the American West. When his family stopped receiving letters from him, and no one heard from or had contact with Everett for months - concern mounted. Search parties scoured high and low, but were left with more questions than answers after what they discovered in the process.

Book - Finding Everett Ruess: The Life and Unsolved Disappearance of a Legendary Wilderness Explorer by David Roberts

Beyond the Bear. Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site.

Hugh Glass is best known for his incredible survival story. After being mauled by a grizzly, being left for dead and dragging himself nearly 250 miles across the country - his story, or at least a version of it, has been immortalized in the film The Revenant. But Hugh’s life goes beyond his encounter with the bear - what came before and after are just as wild as a ride, and are worth movies of their own.

The First Murder of a Ranger. Hot Springs National Park. Outsiders Only.

The First Murder of a Ranger. Hot Springs National Park. Outsiders Only.

When our beloved Park Rangers accept their positions to protect National Parks, they agree to a code of conduct, upholding them to the highest standards in their job and in their personal lives. Rangers like James Alexander Cary, took this pledge very seriously and did all that he could to preserve the park he was employed to protect. Hot Springs National Park was a lawless area in the 1920's, filled with illegal moonshining stills and gangsters that had their hands in everyones pockets. Many law officials were corruptible and able to be bought, but not James Alexander Cary. He paid for his dedication to the park with his life.
