    147. Meet the Founder Marlena Gabriel from Horizon Athletic

Building a fashion or activewear brand from scratch takes far more than a beautiful product idea. It takes patience, persistence, problem-solving and the willingness to keep showing up long enough to understand what your customers actually want. In this Meet the Founder episode, I’m joined by Marlena, founder of Horizon Athletic, a sustainable swimwear and activewear brand originally founded in Australia and now growing across international markets. Marlena shares how her background in sport, business and finance led her into fashion, why sustainability and responsible production have been central to the brand from the beginning, and what it really looks like to grow a lean, international product-based business. From Australian-made swimwear to Italian-made activewear, European marketplaces, rebrands, product refinement and even losing stock in a fire, this is such a grounded and honest conversation about the realities of building a brand for the long term. In this episode, we cover: How Marlena first started Horizon Athletic while working in accounting The role her auntie played in helping her understand design, sampling, patterns and production Why Australian-made swimwear is still such an important part of the brand The challenges of manufacturing locally and sourcing sustainable fabrics How Horizon Athletic expanded into Europe through marketplaces Why building momentum takes time, patience and consistent refinement The importance of understanding your true customer, not just the customer you thought you were selling to How Marlena bounced back after a fire impacted her Australian stock Why customer feedback and seeing people genuinely love the product has been one of her biggest wins What’s next for Horizon Athletic, including international expansion and new product categories This episode is a beautiful reminder that building a brand is rarely instant. It is built through small decisions, consistent action, customer feedback, product refinement and the resilience to keep going when things do not go to plan. Listen to the full episode now. 146. The 4 x e-Commerce growth strategies every online store owner needs to know

If your business feels busy but not necessarily growing, this episode will give you a reset. Because doing more isn’t the answer. It’s about knowing what to focus on, and when. Inside this episode, I’m breaking down a simple framework I use with my clients to bring clarity and direction to their growth strategy, especially when things start to feel scattered or stagnant. You’ll walk away knowing exactly where to focus your time and energy over the next 30 to 90 days, without trying to do everything at once. What we cover: The 4 core e-commerce growth strategies and how they actually work in real life Why trying to do everything at once is slowing your growth How to identify which strategy you’re currently focused on (and if it’s the right one) The difference between scaling with existing products vs launching new ones When it makes sense to expand into new markets, like international or wholesale Why product development often creates more pressure than progress How to choose one or two clear priorities for the next 30 to 90 days If you’ve been feeling pulled in too many directions or unsure what your next move should be, this will help you simplify and refocus. 145. What to do when your business feels harder than it should

In this episode, I’m sharing something a little more personal. After two weeks away in Bali, I came home questioning everything. Not just how I was running my business, but whether I even wanted to keep doing it at all. And if you’ve ever had one of those moments where everything feels heavy, frustrating, or just harder than it should… this one will likely hit close to home. Because what I realised wasn’t what I expected. It wasn’t that I’d fallen out of love with my business. It wasn’t that I needed to burn everything down and start again. It was something much simpler, and much more fixable. Inside this episode, I walk you through what actually came up for me, what I was getting wrong, and the shift I’m making moving forward. We also talk about the different seasons of business, why these “I want to quit” moments happen more often than you think, and how to respond without making reactive decisions you’ll regret. If your business has been feeling harder than it should lately, this is your reminder to pause before you pivot. There’s usually a smarter solution sitting right in front of you. In this episode, I cover: What triggered me to question my entire business Why time off didn’t give me the clarity I expected The real reason things started to feel overwhelming How growth can quietly create new pressure points The difference between a business problem and a support problem Why these feelings are often seasonal, not permanent The simple shift I’m making instead of walking away If this episode resonated, I’d love to hear from you. 144. What to Do When Your Meta Ads Aren’t Working, 5 Common Problems and How to Fix Them

If your Meta ads have suddenly stopped performing, your ROAS has dropped, or you’re getting clicks but no sales, this episode is for you. Inside this episode, I’m breaking down some of the most common Meta ads problems I’m seeing right now across e-commerce brands, and what to actually do about them. From ads that start strong and then slow down, to campaigns that are spending but not converting, I’m walking you through the key things to check before you panic, turn everything off, or assume your ads are broken. I also share why low ROAS is not always a Meta problem, what can cause new ads not to spend at all, and why your website might be the real issue if people are clicking but not buying. In this episode, I cover: What to do when your ads were working, then suddenly dropped off Why low ROAS often points to an average order value or website issue What to look at when you’re getting some sales, but not enough volume Why do some new ads not spend at all What it usually means when your ads get clicks but no purchases The difference between a Meta ads issue and a website conversion issue Why reading the numbers matters more than reacting emotionally This is a practical troubleshooting episode to help you step back, assess what the data is actually saying, and make smarter decisions inside Ads Manager. 143. How to Track What’s Actually Working in Your E-Commerce Business (with Triple Whale)

When you start running ads, using email marketing, posting on social media and trying to grow your online store, one of the biggest questions becomes this. What is actually driving my sales? Because when your Shopify, Meta Ads and Google Ads all show different numbers, it becomes very hard to know what is really working and where you should be investing more time and money. In this episode, I’m joined by Adam Saunders from Triple Whale and we talk about attribution, tracking, and how e-commerce founders can actually understand their data and make better decisions as they grow. We talk about why tracking has become more complicated over the last few years, why your numbers don’t match across platforms, and how to start looking at your data in a much smarter way so you can scale with more confidence. If you are running ads, investing in marketing, or trying to scale your online store, this episode will help you better understand what is really happening behind your sales numbers. In this episode, we cover: Why your Shopify, Meta and Google numbers never match What attribution actually means in e-commerce Why tracking has become harder over the last few years How to look at blended data instead of relying on one platform How understanding your numbers helps you scale with more confidence What founders should actually be tracking in their business How tools like Triple Whale help you see the bigger picture Why data becomes more important as your business grows Resources mentioned in this episode Triple Whale If you'd like to sign up and try Triple Whale, your welcome to use my Affiliate link here Connect with Adam Saudners from Triple Whale here. 142. The 3 Growth Levers that Scale an e-Commerce Store

When an online store hits a plateau, the question most founders ask is simple. What should I do next to grow sales? Should you spend more on ads? Should you focus on email marketing? Or is it time to expand your product range? The truth is, the right answer depends entirely on what is already happening inside your business. In this episode, I share three real examples from a recent mastermind coaching call where founders were all trying to solve the same problem, scaling their sales. But the strategy that made the most sense for each business was completely different. By stepping back and analysing where their sales were actually coming from, we were able to identify the most logical lever to pull next. If your store feels like it has hit a ceiling lately, this episode will help you step back, look at the numbers, and identify where the real growth opportunity may be sitting. In this episode, we cover: The three major growth levers available to most e-commerce businesses How to analyse where your sales are actually coming from Why different businesses require completely different scaling strategies Three real case studies from inside my mastermind How to identify the next lever that could unlock your growth Resources mentioned in this episode 90-Minute e-Commerce Scale Intensive https://www.jodieminto.com/ecomm-scale-intensive 7-Figure Scale Collective Mastermind https://www.jodieminto.com/mastermind Explore more podcast episodes https://www.jodieminto.com/podcast Enjoyed this episode? 141. My customer service horror stories, and how you can handle complaints without losing your mind

Content warning: This episode mentions suicide. If you or someone you know has been affected by any of the issues raised in this episode, help is always available. Call Lifeline Australia on 13 11 14. Customer service is part of building a business. It is also one of the fastest ways to test your patience, your boundaries, and your leadership. In this episode, I share several real stories from my own journey, from scaling a 7-figure fashion brand to navigating the early days of my coaching business. Some of them are absurd. Some are terrifying. All of them taught me something important about policies, professionalism, and protecting your energy. Because the complaint itself is rarely the hardest part. It is the emotional weight that comes with it. The back and forth. The temptation to defend yourself. The way one email can hijack your entire day if you let it. Inside this conversation, I walk through how to handle difficult customers without reacting, oversharing, escalating the situation, or damaging your reputation. We cover: Why complaints can feel so personal The importance of responding rather than reacting How to remove emotion from difficult replies When a refund can be a strategic decision How to tighten policies after a challenging situation Protecting your reputation in the age of screenshots Guarding your energy as a founder If you run an online store, sell digital products, or work closely with clients, this is a conversation worth having. Strong boundaries are not harsh. Clear policies are not unkind. Protecting your energy is not optional if you want to build something sustainable. Running a business will expose you to all kinds of people. The goal is not to avoid complaints. The goal is to handle them in a way that protects your brand, your confidence, and your long-term vision. If this episode resonated, I would love to hear your own lessons from the trenches. 140. My e-commerce Meta Ad predictions for 2026

Meta ads are still one of the most powerful growth levers for e-commerce brands. But the way they work, and the way you need to use them, has shifted again. In this episode, I’m sharing my 2026 Meta ads predictions based on what I’m seeing right now inside real ad accounts, client results, and the wider e-commerce landscape. This isn’t theory or trend-chasing. It’s what’s actually working, what’s losing effectiveness, and where smart founders need to focus next if they want profitable, sustainable growth. Inside this episode, we cover: How Meta ads are evolving in 2026 and what that means for product-based brands Why creative, messaging, and offer clarity matter more than ever What Meta’s increasing automation really means for advertisers Where founders are still wasting money (and how to stop) How to think about ads as part of a wider sales and marketing system, not a standalone tactic What I’d prioritise if I were starting or scaling ads this year If you’re running ads now, or planning to this year, this episode will help you approach Meta with more clarity and confidence.
