    As the conversation kicks off, Delphine tells the story of her involvement with the Adyen campaign that was displayed in Times Square. Then, she gives listeners her insight into creating a brand from scratch, which she says is like a personality. At the beginning of the journey, you must understand the psychology behind why the brand creators are passionate about what they’re doing and what they hope to achieve.     Welcome to Payments & More, Allyiz Show hosted by Nico Vedrenne, CEO Allyiz.

    Today’s guest is Paul Smith, who has 20 years of experience working at Experian Credit Bureau and handling complex data projects. He has lived and worked in Asia for these 20 years and is now working with Allyiz as their data guru! We will have great takeaways from this episode with Paul, including the new trends in identification and what payment and fraud is like in Asia from his first-hand experience.

    In this era of data and technology, Paul believes it is a race to address issues and retain customer interest. Companies who can’t keep up with such rapid pace will likely fall behind. Paul offers a few examples of companies who have successfully kept up with the pace during his experience working with marketplace providers. The integration of new tools, machine learning and AI technology in conjunction with the pace they were working at was phenomenal.

    Next, Nico and Paul discuss the rapid market changes in the last 5 years. Paul sees drastic changes needed within the ecosystem. As consumers demand more from service providers, they need to take a higher level of responsibility in terms of how these services are delivered. Paul is a strong believer that consumers should be carrying their identity verification with them and using them as confirmation for service providers.

    Looking at changes and recent capabilities that have been presented in recent years, Paul predicts that consumers will become increasingly responsible for verifying their own payments. Then, Paul shares his opinion on what is going wrong with fraud prevention, which typically operates one step ahead. Customer recognition is key and will only become more so as time goes on.

    Paul also predicts that biometrics will increasingly have an important role to play in the next generation of solutions. We are already seeing its adoption in relatively simple transactions and usage with mobile phones. In Asia, its usage is practically universally accepted.

    On the road to Asia | Elodie Trichet

    Welcome to Payments & More, Allyiz Show hosted by Nico Vedrenne, CEO Allyiz.

    Today’s guest is Elodie Trichet, who has over 16 years of International Online Payment experience across all continents for B2C & B2B business, 10 of those years with Adyen. After 11 years in the Netherlands, she relocated to Singapore 6 years ago heading up Strategic Partnership & Market development for the region. She works closely with the tech giants and multinational companies assisting them in expanding their Ecommerce footprint across the globe and enter the more exotic markets as seamless as possible.

    To begin, Nico asks Elodie to share her perspective regarding Asian consumer markets. She articulates some of the factors which vary from country to country, with the Philippines being an example of an economy heavily reliant on pawn shops and bartering goods to make payments. In Indonesia, she explains payments are often made at local convenience stores. Listen as Elodie explains how some of those cash-driven societies operate.

    Marketplaces, especially in China, have become big and more Asian merchants are now creating online commerce profiles. Elodie speaks of the acceleration of various tech platforms in Asia and the benefits of such technology. They discuss the subsequent growth of QR payments.

    They comment about the new generation of financial technologists, but because Southeast Asia is so regulated, Elodie believes it is difficult for them to emerge into the market. These regulations are fragmented but are slowly coming around in terms of data protection and how money is stored.

    In the Golden Minute, Elodie would pitch a call to action for merchants moving into the Asian market as the President of all e-commerce merchants in the world. She would urge them to come to Asia and explore the markets by themselves, get to know their customers and build strong in-person relationships.

    Today’s guest is Catherine Tong, who has 20 years of experience in e-commerce risk and fraud, across multiple industries, from retail, airlines, travel to digital. She obtained a breadth of experience from different perspectives as a consultant, merchant and vendor at each of PwC, Tesco and Accertify.

    Listen in to hear her opinion on Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). Catherine affirms SCA is a good thing. For issuers, she says it’s a competitive edge they can acquire to achieve “top of wallet” status. From a PSP perspective SCA ensures they’re passing along the right data and flags to optimize transactions being authorized. It also gives insight into the exemptions being applied.

    Having been in the industry for the past 20 years, one of the things she’s seen changed is the balance of gender representations, but she says there is still room for improvement in diversity. Many women don’t feel like there are female mentors or role models readily available to them, which is why Catherine has engaged in networking groups, like European Women in Payments Network.
