Professor Cunneen has a national and international reputation as a leading criminologist specialising in Indigenous people and the law, juvenile justice, restorative justice, policing, prison issues and human rights. Chris has participated with a number of Australian Royal Commissions and Inquiries (including the Stolen Generations Inquiry, the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody and the National Inquiry into Racist Violence), and with the federal Australian Human Rights Commission. Lukas and Alicia talk time with University of Westminster Lecturer Sacha Darke and recently returned citizen and Phd Student Zahid Bashir. This episode puts a flag in the ground and gives us an insight as to how educational opportunities for previously incarcerated people and partnerships with Universities can exist and foster. This is a real flagship moment and an educational podcast for ALL universities and academics that if they can move past their own uncertainties, and in some areas bias, toward previously incarcerated people that lives can be changed, paths altered and overall authenticity in education increased.
