Ep 9: Ali Barter
Melbourne based Ali Barter, has three EP's and two studio albums under her belt, her track Girlie Bits was voted in at number 58 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2017 and her album A Suitable Girl made it to number 17 on the Australian Aria charts. Jesse and Ali talk about getting into the music industry in her 20's, preparing for solo shows, writing her new EP over the internet with her writing partner in LA, learning the bass to play for the first time on tour, they run through her compact pedal board and break down tones from her solo EP Live From the Inside and tracks Girlie Bits and Backseat.
Ep 8: James Gatling and Ewan Birtwell (WAAX)
Guitarists for the Brisbane band WAAX, who formed in 2013 and released two independent Ep's before dropping their debut album Big Grief in 2019. Their track Labrador also came in at number 88 on the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2018. Jesse, James and Ewan talk working in isolation, first bits of gear, balancing tones with two guitars in a track, they run through their pedal boards and break down guitar tones from WAAX tracks Labrador, FU and History.
Ep 7: Sven Pettersen (Racing)
Sven Pettersen is the guitarist for New Zealand four piece Racing, who released their debut album Real Dancing in 2019, which subsequently earned them a nomination for Best Rock Artist at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards. Jesse and Sven talk recording in iso, Sven's first guitar, home made pedals, they discuss Sven's utilitarian pedalboard and breakdown guitar tones from Racing songs Motel Pool, Run Wild, If Only, and Party Slow.
Ep 6: Alex Lahey
Since 2016, Alex Lahey has won a Triple J Unearthed Award, been nominated for multiple J-Awards, won Pitchforks Best New Song, been nominated for an Aria of the Year Award, placed on several albums of the year lists and earned multiple places on Triple j's Hottest 100.
Jesse and Alex talk recording in isolation, co-writing, making music her career, recording her new EP 'Between the Kitchen and the Living Room' as home, they discuss her pedalboard and breakdown guitar tones from her tracks 'Sucker for Punishment', 'I Haven't Been Taking Care of Myself' and 'Don't be so Hard on Yourself'.
Ep 5: Jaryd Colivas (100)
Jaryd Colivas is the guitarist for Sydney band 100. Jesse and Jaryd talk about working as a live band during lockdown, why bigger is better when it comes to amps, how Jaryd has made his pedalboard malleable so he can play in different bands and they break down tones from 100 tracks Weightless, Just Us and Cortisone.
Ep 4: Tom Peppitt (PLANET)
Tom Peppitt is the guitarist for Sydney four piece PLANET, who went from playing local pub gigs around New South Wales to playing multiple headline tours across the UK, which they consider as their home away from home.
Jesse and Tom, talk about working in quarantine, recording demos in his grandma’s farm shed, going ampless, the UK music scene vs the Aussie scene and breakdown tones from tracks off PLANET’s new EP ‘Maybe Someday’, ‘Never New’ and ‘Imaginary’.
