WRITER 412: Gabrielle Tozer discusses her latest novel 'Can’t Say it Went to Plan' [Story Sessions series]

This 'inbetweenisode' is part of our Story Sessions series and features 'Can't Say It Went to Plan' by Gabrielle Tozer. This is the latest young adult novel from the fabulous Gabrielle Tozer, author of 'The Intern', 'Faking It' and 'Remind Me How This Ends'. This time, Gabrielle is taking on schoolies - that infamous break at the end of high school when Aussie kids hit the beach to celebrate. But this is not a party book, although there are plenty of parties - Gabrielle tackles the complex emotions that teens face at this time with her usual humour, perspicacity and warmth. Before Gabrielle reads from her novel, I asked her to answer some questions about her writing process as well her top three tips for writers.

WRITER 410: B.M. Carroll discusses her latest novel 'You Had It Coming' [Story Sessions series]

This 'inbetweenisode' is part of our Story Sessions series and features 'You Had It Coming' by B.M. Carroll. This is another exciting thriller from the pen of B. M. Carroll, who also writes as Ber Carroll. It’s a tense psychological drama that will hook you in right from the dramatic opening scene until the final pages.

Before she reads her first chapter, you’ll hear Ber talk about her writing process and how this is her first time writing this style. It’s fascinating to see how authors change and adapt along their career.

WRITER 408: James Phelps discusses his latest novel 'The Inside Man' [Story Sessions series]

This 'inbetweenisode' is part of our Story Sessions series and features 'The Inside Man' by James Phelps. You’ll know James Phelps better as a journalist and true crime writer - but this is his first fiction novel. And as you can expect from Australia’s number one true crime crime writer, it’s an absolute cracker. Before he reads from his novel, James has answered some questions about his writing process and what inspired the novel. The way this novel was commissioned is pretty unique!

Listen to THIS!

SO, I’ve just signed up for ‘blogging4beginners’ at Australian Writers Centre & was sat up in bed last night w pen & scrap paper, drawing boxes (tab titles); article titles and ideas; pondering my PURPOSE; speaking to WHOM - and, darest I dream…perchance in time, earn HOW-by, and,

though I already listen to SYW2B/Writer, thought I’d kick back this morn w its FIRST ‘cast to see how it sounded, its formation, presentation. I listened to 2014’s chat w Simsion - with a fair chat on blogging, coincidentally, and I gotta say,

Valerie & Allison: you laydeez are SOLID, have been since Day 1! You are THE GOODS for writers - and AWC inspired & inspiring all alongside. Not just businessy/personally achieved you both, but REALLY giving something.

Oh wow, I’ve only done one ‘B4B’ lesson & I’m buzzed!! If that aint a great service in itself idk what is✌️!

Oh hi Rocky who meowed in the bg there💙🐈. Shakes, my muse, purrs backatya.

PS had to copy over my previous review (fair enough really) to write this - just saying, in case it looks puzzling, your end.

Yours most faithfully,
one inspired
Noeleen Ginnane 🙏

A page-turner of a podcast

If this podcast were a book, it would be a NY Times bestseller.

It has a clear, distinctive voice (two, in fact).

Well-rounded main characters.

A solid structure without a saggy middle (unless you ask Al, who may suggest skimming through Word of the Week).

And it challenges me to think differently.

When I get to the end, I can't wait to go back into that world again.

Highly recommend!

Great advice and entertaining

I’m 14 years old and love writing so stumbling upon this podcast was a great blessing! I am interested in publishing my work so listening to interviews with the writing community and minisodes are super helpful when I have writers block or am feeling drained! Val and Al are the best podcasting duo and are so cheerful and energetic with every episode, if I ever publish my novel I definitely want to meet them and tell them how much they have informed me and taken my writing career to the next level. Thank you both for continuing to inspire and advise me on tips and writing tools. Much love, K :)
