How the Red Wiggle is changing what a family looks like

How the Red Wiggle is changing what a family looks like

Caterina Mete - better known to children and parents around Australia and the globe as the Red Wiggle - recently made history when she announced she is expecting identical twin girls.

Now Caterina, who is the first-ever pregnant Wiggle, joins us to talk for the first time about the emotional path she took to get here. Having conceived her babies through IVF, she explains her decision to embark on a fertility journey on her own, discusses the setbacks she encountered along the way - which included a miscarriage - and the joy she felt when she learnt she was pregnant. She also reveals the often surprising reaction to her baby news from friends and family, and the impact of being a member of The Wiggles who is embarking on motherhood according to her own very modern rule book.

A warning that today’s episode touches on subject matter that could be triggering for some listeners. For support or information about pregnancy loss, visit miscarriageaustralia.com.au

Hamish Blake on luck, love, Logies and… um, lollies

Hamish Blake on luck, love, Logies and… um, lollies

For more than 20 years, Hamish Blake has been a familiar face on the Australian entertainment landscape, moving seamlessly between the worlds of radio, television and podcasting. So what’s been the secret to his success? In a rare in-depth interview, the popular entertainer and two-time Gold Logie winner chalks it up to luck - as well as a healthy dose of fun. Case in point: a spirited discussion about black cat lollies, the burial rituals of ancient Egypt and his theory that a well-stocked snack cupboard is key to a happy workplace.

Of course, there is a lot more to Hamish than mere clowning around. The Lego Masters host also opens up about the public’s ongoing fascination with his marriage to Zoë Foster Blake, talks about the joy and chaos of fatherhood to two young children, discusses how he and longtime creative partner and friend Andy Lee have navigated the different life paths they have embarked upon and finally addresses what was really going through his head when the cameras cut to him during Sonia Kruger’s infamous Gold Logie acceptance speech last year.

Lego Masters will premiere Sunday April 14 at 7pm on the Nine Network.

Brittany Hockley has an update on her fertility journey

Brittany Hockley has an update on her fertility journey

Brittany Hockley has come full circle in that she first rose to fame on reality TV, and is currently starring on another reality TV show - this time, of course, in the jungle. But a lot has happened in the intervening six years…

It was 2018 when Brittany appeared on The Bachelor in the now-infamous season featuring Nick Cummins, yet the woman joining today’s episode of Something To Talk About has come a long way since with the former hospital radiographer going on to co-host both a successful podcast and radio show with her close friend and fellow Bachelor alum Laura Byrne.

Just before she flew out to South Africa for the new season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Brittany sat down for a wide-ranging conversation about being off the grid while she is in the jungle, navigating both the good and the bad that comes with being one of the most high-profile women in the country, and how she feels about the narrative that still pits successful women against one another.

She also speaks at length about the fertility journey she’s been on over the past few years. As she says: “No matter where you're at in your journey to motherhood, you are allowed to feel how you feel. That is something that's often taken away from women: that they're not allowed to feel anything. But you are.”

I Am a Celebrity… Get Me Out Here! airs at 7.30pm on Network 10 and 10Play.

You can also hear more from Brittany Hockley on her radio show, The Pickup, or via the Life Uncut podcast.

In a wide ranging conversation with Something To Talk About, David - who is, of course, the son of Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes - opens up about why he wanted to break the intergenerational cycle of addiction in his family, how sobriety has impacted his marriage - and whether he sees a day where he tells his eldest son of the role he played in changing his parents’ relationship with alcohol.

You can read David’s column from 2015, “My family’s alcoholism stops with me” here.

How Rosie Batty found hope again

How Rosie Batty found hope again

Ten years after her son Luke Batty was murdered by his father, Rosie Batty continues her tireless campaign to raise awareness about domestic and family violence. But perhaps even more remarkably, she has managed to find hope in the aftermath of such an unimaginable tragedy.

On today’s episode of Something To Talk About, Rosie sits down for a powerful conversation in which she reflects on the complexities of grief, as well as her memories of Luke, the beloved son she lost when he was aged just 11. She also speaks about what needs to be done in bringing an end to domestic and family violence in Australia, and explains how she was able to rediscover hope - even joy - after enduring the worst day of her life.

If you have experienced or at risk of family violence, you can call the national counselling service 1800RESPECT.

Rosie’s new memoir 'Hope', is available to pre-order now, and will be in bookstores on April 3, 2024.

Why Natalie Barr “had to be talked into” one of the biggest jobs on TV

Why Natalie Barr “had to be talked into” one of the biggest jobs on TV

She’s one of the most well known women on Australian TV, and yet, as she marks three years on air as the co-host of Sunrise, Natalie Barr reveals she was initially reluctant to accept the job and found herself second-guessing whether she was right for the role.

She also opens up about establishing an on-air rapport with Matt Shirvington after the departure of long time co-host David Koch, tuning out the white noise of social media - and how she handles speculation about the supposed tension between her and her female colleagues. “Whatever a catfight is, I can’t remember any in the Sunrise office,” she tells Something To Talk About.

At 55, she is feeling more confident than ever – even if her inner Catholic school girl fears it might be “bragging” to admit it.  But it’s also a chapter of her life that has seen her two sons both move out of home, leaving Natalie and her husband adjusting to being empty-nesters.

See more of Natalie Barr weekdays on Sunrise on Channel 7 and 7Plus.

Review

I love the diversity of the interviewees. I find the questions asked to long and convoluted. Could these be condensed and more succinct. I’m a fan Sarah would like it all a bit more concise. Thank you

Enjoyable.. but..

This is a great podcast, but I just feel that Sarah talks too much and repeats herself which is annoying. It’s a podcast about the guests. I think they just need to have a chance to speak!

Julie bishop

Australia dodged a bullet when she was flicked for scomo even though he was an absolute disaster and criminal he would have been a million times better than her.
Julie bishop is an absolute disgrace to herself and to all women in general. Even though she was at the pointy end of politics she couldn’t and still doesn’t stop dressing and acting like a very young woman which she is not. She is an absolute dragon…
