Still Toking with The Prospector Theater (501-C‪)‬ Still Toking With

    • Comedy

This week Ben, Jeff and Leo are still toking with the creative minds of Val Jensen owner and founder of The Prospector Theater.

The Prospector Theater is the vision of Founder & Visionary Valerie Jensen. Val’s passion and lifelong work started when her sister, Hope, was born in 1979 with Down syndrome. After receiving her Master’s in Special Education, Val worked as an elementary teacher, then as executive director of an arts non-profit for adults with disabilities. There she wrote, designed, developed, and orchestrated live musicals and feature-length films starring adults with disabilities.

Our Mission:
The Prospector Theater is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to providing meaningful, competitive, and integrated employment to people with disabilities through the operation of a first-run movie theater in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Employees of the Theater are known as Prospects, with 75% self-identifying with a disability. As Prospects, we use their sparkle – or talents and passions – to create exceptional moviegoing experiences, while educating audiences about the employability of adults with disabilities. Nearly 83% of Americans with disabilities are unemployed, and the Prospector model is a beacon of hope for those who can work, want to work, yet struggle finding a job.
We fulfill our mission of meaningful employment EVERY DAY, demonstrating our philosophy that “working is working!”
