OZPLOITATION - The Shocking & Schlocking Cinema of Brian Trenchard-Smith

Adjacent to the Australian New Wave movement of the 70's and 80's was a period of exploitation filmmaking focused on explosions, fast cars, and gonzo genre flicks with an Ozzie flair. With countless films available this era of filmmaking can be a little daunting to dive into, so we’re giving you an entry point. Join Alexei as he brings you into the wicked world of the films of Brian Trenchard-Smith. We journey through his films The Man From Hong Kong, Turkey Shoot, BMX Bandits, Dead End Drive-In and even his prizewinning government PSA film combatting cigarette-fueled hospital fires.

MsDevsDevs ,

Australia’s finest film nerd

Alexei’s interviews are so reminiscent of our movie mum and dad (Margaret and David). He has an incredible knowledge and love of cinema, and a respectful curiosity about films and filmmakers which leads to fascinating conversations. His excitement is infectious and ✨ sparks joy ✨ for Aussie movies, many of which are extremely underrated and have been under-promoted (until now).

Brilliant interviews!

Thank you Alexi! Agapi mou si!!
As much as we all loved your very comedy driven podcasts regarding cinema and those even better documentaries on YouTube, I personally have been yearning for a more in-depth analysis podcast series that touches on cinema and the fact it revolves around Aussie cinema is magnificent!

Thank you for sourcing and chatting to genuine heavy hitters in the industry and from one horror lover to another. THANK YOU.

Can’t wait for the rest of it!
All the best
