So good! A must for SPN fans!

I’ve been watching Supernatural since the pilot episode was released in Oz. Yep I’m that old. I’ve then binge watched it every year since it finished. Currently up to season 13 in my latest binge. Rob and Rich are amazing. So funny and the interviews are fascinating. I was over the moon when I found this podcast. I’ve binged it over the past 4 weeks and I’m said that I’ll now have to wait weekly to listen to the next one. Best rewatch podcast I’ve listened to. Two very full and lush beards from me!!

A Podcast For Every Supernatural Fan

So, I’m late to the Supernatural Family, by about nearly two decades (it sounds bad when I say it like that). I honestly can’t tell you why. I can’t remember hearing about it when it launched and I had a young family at the time anyway, renovating a house, working, and was studying law. No time for any distractions.

Anyway, I stumbled across the show on one of the streaming services this year and thought I’d give it a go. Ten hours later I was having to pry myself away from the TV to go to bed. I haven’t stopped watching it since. I was smitten. And I’m still not finished.

As I had missed the fandom and conventions and everything else about the show in those 19 years, I went searching for a podcast to do a decent deep dive on the show, so that I could at least have someone else’s perspective and thoughts about something that absolutely thrilled me to bits. So you can imagine my delight and surprise when I discovered Loki and God had a podcast about the show.

Side note, I cannot believe how many separate friendship groups between the cast and crew have sprung up over the years that work on side projects, such a creative bunch of people.

I love that Rob and Rich are genuinely friends who have each other’s back and have been friends for so long that they have that sort of understanding and shorthand that only truly close friends have. Their ease with each other and the guest cast and crew they have on the podcast makes it feel as though you sitting down with old friends for a drink and a chat.

I really appreciate it when Richard takes time out to explain technical terms to the audience. That’s huge, and very kind. It makes me feel like I’m getting a lesson in how to make a show.

When Rob mentioned something about “the band” I went off searching for convention videos and discovered a whole new world! Rob and Rich telling the European train story might be one of the funniest things I have ever seen/heard. I laughed so hard that I cried.

Rob’s band Louden Swain are amazing and I love listening to their music. So beautiful.

My point is that Rob and Rich can tell a story that draws you in, and suddenly an hour has passed and you wonder where the time has gone. I have to travel long distances for a training course 3-4 times a week. An hour each way. And the time flies by when I listen to them and their down home style of interviewing people is charming to listen to.

As the podcast episode progresses, their interview skills are honed with each new guest. It’s difficult to remember what you did 15-19 years ago, but Rob and Rich find a way to obtain salient details from their guests that makes it so worthwhile to listen in every week.

I love that a recent episode reveal the truth about how Clif (J2’s Crowd Control Engineer/Bodyguard) earned his role as “Tiny” in “Folsom Prison Blues” and that he got a whole episode to himself. He is a very interesting man, and a keeper of so much information about the fandom and the show. I also really admire him for quitting after his night of being J2’s bodyguards and standing up for himself. That struck me as an act of personal integrity. But I digress.

My only gripe is that there are only two shows a week. At this rate, I will literally be in the retirement home by the time this series in finished. I will stick around though if Rob and Rich keep putting out the podcast.

I was surprised that Rob and Rich hadn’t already watched all the shows, but I remembered that it was a lot harder to watch shows if you couldn’t be there at the time it was broadcast. It’s great to hear Rob and Rich learn more about the show as they go. I truly hope the address some of the more controversial content as the years go by. I’d be interested to get their take on it.

Download and subscribe to the lads. I give this show two out-of-control Jensen “I’m bulking up for ‘The Boys’” Ackles beards.
