    The Humble Little Breadtag

    The Humble Little Breadtag

This week we share an interview with Shani Nottingham, the founder of The Breadtag Project.

Shani took a simple everyday item and decided to make art with it. But in a bid to discover more, she found opportunities to do better in education, awareness building, campaigning, activism and closing the waste loop.

This simple creative project has helped to implement change right across the world. Find out more about The Breadtag Project at Instagram or Facebook

Episode 48: Naturally Inspired with Krissy Ballinger

Episode 48: Naturally Inspired with Krissy Ballinger

Krissy Ballinger has always been passionate about health, the human body and the planet. When she learned about the crazy number of ingredients in her cleaning and body care products, she decided to use this ‘universal nudge’ to do something about it. Valuing simplicity over convenience, she created her own products using natural and simple ingredients. She started on this journey with the intention of changing her family’s lives for the better, but continues on it because she needs as many people as possible to know that there is another way. Her DIY recipes can now be found online, and she has published several books, helping people to realise that avoiding store-bought, potentially harmful products not only benefits your own body, but also those around you, and of course, the planet.

Check out her recipes and more at www.krissyballinger.com.au or on Instagram

You can add your name to her petition calling for transparent labelling laws on cleaning products here.

Episode 47: Give Where You Live

Episode 47: Give Where You Live

Gifting, receiving, sharing, lending and expressing gratitude are the simple things that don’t seem to happen that often anymore.

In this week’s episode, Jacqui shares her experience of the Buy Nothing Project and how a hyper-local gifting group not only minimises the amount of items that could potentially end up in landfill but helps acquaint people to others living nearby. In an age where people rarely know their neighbours, a ‘buy nothing’ group is a wonderful way to connect. With over twenty-five thousand members, The Buy Nothing Project is present in four countries (the US, UK, Canada, and Australia), and has over 150 groups in operation.

To find out more about the Buy Nothing Project please visit their website here. To check if there is a group in your suburb click here. If there is no group in your suburb and you are interested in starting one, we invite you to check out their  Start-A-Group page

Episode 46: Stride into slow fashion with Jordan Wilkes

Episode 46: Stride into slow fashion with Jordan Wilkes

When professional soccer player Jordan Wilkes was 20 years old, he asked himself if his wardrobe reflected his personal values - and his answer was a resounding ‘no’! He refers to it as “giving passive consent to the ill’s of the world through your personal consumption”.

What followed is a quite remarkable story. We chat to this young and inspiring entrepreneur about his journey into ‘slow fashion’ and how he’s turned it into a budding empire.

“In the long-term, I want Stride to become an Amazon-Esque marketplace for Australians to buy anything and everything they want, but with the peace of mind knowing that they are supporting ethical and sustainable companies making the world a better place.” - Jordan Wilkes.

To learn more about Stride, please visit their website here. Stride is also on all social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter

    Episode 45: Confident Conversations

    Episode 45: Confident Conversations

Have you ever talked about climate change with someone and felt like the conversation didn’t go as well as you planned? Or have you avoided having these conversations because you don’t feel well equipped?

In 2020, Climate Compass conducted research that identified seven segments in the Australian community according to attitudes and behaviours toward climate change. Although the research found 82% of Australians understand climate change is real and are worried about it - their response to messages, and willingness to take action is varied.

Lisa - through her work at Climate for Change was engaged to use this research and create a guide that would help everyone have more targeted and effective conversations about climate change with others.

It helps people identify what segment the person they are talking with belongs to, what the general values and attitudes are of that segment, and provides guidance on what messages would be appropriate and effective to get them to take more action.

You can download our Climate Conversations Guide here.

And if you’re interested to extend your skills in this area, Climate for Change’s facilitator training is free and builds on these basic tips to enable volunteers to guide group discussions about climate change that have a real impact.
