TBP 263: Joe Miller, Overreaction Sports Podcast

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast presented by 26 Shirts, Patrick Moran has a chat with Overreaction Sports Podcast host Joe Miller on a variety of topics centered around the Buffalo Bills uninspiring Monday evening football loss at home to the Kansas City Chiefs.

There’s no more debating whether the Bills defense has taken a decisive turn for the worse in 2020.  Patrick and Joe try to figure out exactly why.  One game after Ryan Tannehill lit the Bills up through the air, the Chiefs punished a physically dominated Buffalo defense to the tune of nearly 250 yards rushing on the ground.  The guys have thoughts on Leslie Frazier’s schemes, lack of production from supposed young emerging stars like Tremaine Edmunds and Ed Oliver, mental meltdowns from leaders like Tre White and Jordan Poyer and a defensive line almost completely void of any pass rush over the last month.

It’s not all roses and candy on the other side of the ball either.  The guys discuss Josh Allen’s second consecutive subpar performance after a MVP worthy first month as well as Patrick thinking Devin Singletary’s days as the Bills featured back being numbered, the offensive line showing signs of regression, the tight end position being barely extinct and John Brown’s health becoming a significant concern.

They also look at the big picture from both positive and negative perspectives and chime in on what the fortunes of the organization may look like going forward.

They also spend time talking about podcasting, live shows, Buffalo during the fall and much more.

TBP 262: Ghost of Rex Ryan Has Infiltrated The Bills Defense

TBP 262: Ghost of Rex Ryan Has Infiltrated The Bills Defense

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick is joined by friend and recurring guest Joe from NYC for a discussion littered with strong takes on the heels of the Buffalo Bills first loss of the season this past Tuesday night in Tennessee to the undefeated Titans.

Uncertainty surrounded the game happening from last week all the way through up to game day Tuesday as Covid ran rampant through the Titans organization over the past two weeks.  However, despite the Titans practicing just twice over the past two weeks it was the Bills who often looked completely out of sorts.   Patrick and Joe try to make sense of exactly why as the Titans clearly dominated in all three phases of the game as well as coaching and preparation.

The guys spend a bunch of time bewildered about the Bills defense continuing to falter through five weeks of the 2020 season. They discuss Tremaine Edmunds doing what Patrick considers a pretty lousy job at middle linebacker and how much his injury or who’s playing in front of him is factoring in. They also discuss the ineffectiveness of the defensive line at generating sacks and pressure on quarterbacks, particularly Jerry Hughes, who is sackless and has just one tackle for a loss through five games.

On the offensive side of the balls the guys agree that John Brown was missed significantly more than they thought he’d be.  They also have takes on Devin Singletary, TJ Yeldon and if just one game does anything to diminish what Josh Allen has done so far this season.

They also a few minutes discussing the professional wrestling business slipping further into irrelevancy, bad NFL analysts, Patrick looking forward to Troy Aikman coming to Buffalo next week and the reaction from a surprised Joe as he learns about an upcoming election podcast he’ll be a part of.

TBP 261: Matt Parrino, Buffalo Bills Reporter

TBP 261: Matt Parrino, Buffalo Bills Reporter

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran catches up with Buffalo Bills beat reporter and accomplished podcaster, recurring guest Matt Parrino about a wide range of topics including how things have been over the past six months, the evolution of his podcast that’s become quite successful, the Buffalo Bills, Lebron vs Jordan, the public demise of Marc Miller and much more.

Matt’s been a favorite guest of the podcast several times previously including live shows done over wings at Audubon North and Casey’s in Black Rock.  However, Matt hasn’t been on the podcast since back on episode No. 210 back in early April and Patrick spends time learning how life’s been for Matt during these weird and often trying times, including a discussion of how radically different the job of being a NFL team beat reporter has changed in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic.  That ranges from regular team coverage to interview as well as overall team access and Matt pulls back the curtain a little bit on what it’s been like.

They also spend time talking about the Shout Buffalo Football podcast Matt has started with his “tag team” partner at NYup.com, Ryan Talbot.  In less than six months the podcast has already grown by leaps and bounds especially on the video side, where their regular livestream shows often generate at least a few thousand people watching live on various platforms.  Matt describes the decision that went into the podcast, the process of how it’s done and reveals a few of his favorite episodes and guests he’s had on to this point.

Of course, they also spend time discussing the Buffalo Bills, including their surprisingly (mostly) dominant opening month, Josh Allen’s emergence as a legitimate early season league MVP candidate, the struggles of the defense, injuries and concerns about the team competing against the Covid infested Tennessee Titans on Tuesday night.

You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattParrino and of course be sure to check out his work at NYup.com as well as subscribe to his podcast, which again is killing it.

TBP 260: Aaron Quinn, Cover 1 Buffalo

As of this recording the game on Sunday featuring the Bills against the Tennessee Titans is in flux, with nearly two dozen Titans players and personnel having tested positive for Covid recently  The guys offer takes on what the pros and cons are if the game ultimately gets moved or postponed and what the league should do as consequence to the Titans, who created the problem but breaking Covid protocol multiple times.

They also spend time talking giving their thoughts on the results of a poll presented by Bills beat reporter Matt Parrino recently on Twitter that posed a scenario if the Bills would trade Josh Allen, Tre White and Tremaine Edmunds in exchange for Patrick Mahomes if offered.

There’s plenty more on todays’ episode too, including Aaron discussing a TV show he’s been watching, “The Boys’ while Patrick has a review of “Ratched” season one on Netflix.   They also come up with a power ranking of modern female R&B singers after Aaron originally wondered how high Mary J. Blige would place.

TBP 259: “Professor” Bruce Nolan Grades The Buffalo Bills

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest Bruce Nolan of The Bruce Exclusive podcast to grade the Buffalo Bills positionally at the quarter point of the 2020 NFL regular season.

The Buffalo Bills are 4-0 for the first time since 2008 yet this year’s record feels vastly different than it did 12 years ago. Bruce explains why, including a dive into the transformation of Josh Allen into one of the best quarterbacks in the entire league so far.

From there they go position-by-position with Bruce providing an assessment and a grade for each, including a pair of A’s and an explanation on why he doesn’t believe in A+ marks.

The grade differential between offense and defense is a revelation compared to what the guys expected shortly before the season started and that’s discussed.

The guys also spend time discussing their biggest Bills takeaway so far this season, have a relatively difficult time figuring out who’s been the best defensive player and have some takes about league happenings, including insight as to what may happen in the future with Sam Darnold and the New York Jets.

TBP 258: Where’s Josh Allen On The Present/Future QB Totem Pole?

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest Aaron Quinn from Cover-1 Buffalo to discuss several topics, including an exercise power ranking where Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen would deserved to be selected in a hypothetical NFL quarterback re-draft.
