The Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902 saw the British Empire at the height of its power facing a small band of highly mobile Boers in South Africa. The war introduced the world to the concentration camp and is regarded as the first war of the modern era where magazine rifles, trenches and machine guns were deployed extensively. British losses topped 28 000 in a conflict that was supposed to take a few weeks but lasted three years.

Masterful

The amount of dedication and research this project would have taken resounds and echoes in the quality of the podcast. Professional would be understating the effort and dedication. A thoroughly factual account delivered with the flair and craft of a story-teller.
Of the 40+ Podcasts I subscribe to, this would have to be of the highest quality, and most entertaining. The content is superb. Well done Des.

Wonderful storytelling.

I have been interested in the Anglo-Boer since I bought Thomas Pakenham’s absorbing account in the 70s. Was looking for a podcast on the topic and came across Des Latham’s work. I have listened to the first three episodes and it is absorbing. So far not a hint of bias. In fact the inclusion of the plight of the native people’s so often overlooked, has so far been covered just in the same way as all the ordinary people swept up in the war. Highly recommended and now part of my regular podcast listening.
