Over two decades, Dr. Fredric Brandt went from a small dermatology practice in Miami to being Madonna's personal skincare consultant and the go-to for public figures desperate to stave off aging. His clients loved him. Fashion magazines profiled him. But as Brandt continued to build his empire—a best-selling product line, pristine homes in New York and Miami, and an absurd modern art collection—he was slowly becoming addicted to his own product. Popular speculation has it that it was Martin Short's scathing portrayal of a clearly-based-on-Brandt character in the 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' that pushed him to his death, but the truth is far more complicated. From Justine Harman and the team behind 'Broken Harts,' comes 'The Baron of Botox,' a 10-part podcast series, with new episodes publishing every Tuesday starting January 14, 2020.

Insightful, in depth and Compelling

What an incredible dive into the life of this pioneer of the brave new world that is the modern day beauty industry and what constitutes beauty in this era. While I'm not sure I agree with some of the more extreme types of treatments, I think it's tragic that Dr Brandt had to endure so much negativity from others because he was the best and he genuinely cared so deeply for his patients.

I will be recommending it to others, as it was recommended to me.

Haunting, beautiful and kind

Thoughtful, empathetic, intellectually rigorous. Baron of Botox is a cultural study attuned to the bonfire of vanities to which we are all, to varying degrees, our own personal arsonists. Podcast journalism at its best.

OK but lacks focus

This series was entertaining enough but it didn’t really stick to a key theme. From the advertising it sounded like the story of a surgeon who abused prescription drugs. Instead it was about a surgeon who suffered from depression and possibly dysmorphia. Then it kind of bounced around to the broadcasters own cosmetic surgery/procedures and then ended with a talk about the wellness industry. I’d like to hear another podcast from the same team but with the oversight of a good editor.
