Heading into the match, qualification for the 94 World Cup was not yet confirmed for either side, however Colombia's successful campaign so far meant they were only required to avoid defeat. But they were facing an Argentina side which had recently won a second of consecutive Copa América titles and hadn’t recorded a loss on home soil in six years.

In episode two of Greatest Games, Jonathan Wilson and Marcus Speller are joined by Daniel Edwards to discuss the 1967 Intercontinental Cup play-off between Copa Libertadores and European Cup winners, Racing Club and Celtic.

After a pair of acrimonious games in Glasgow and Buenos Aires, the tie would have to be decided on neutral ground at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay. Billy McNeill captained the European champions, with Jock Stein on the sidelines, into a game has since been dubbed “The Battle of Montevideo”.

Greatest Games: Ivory Coast 1 Nigeria 2, 2013

In this first episode of the new season of Greatest Games, Jonathan Wilson and Marcus Speller are joined by Oluwashina Okeleji to discuss Nigeria’s victory over Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ivory Coast’s squad full of players plying their trade across Europe were widely fancied to win their first Afcon title since 1992. In contrast, Nigeria were wallowing under Stephen Keshi after a poor group stage, which convinced Nigerian FA executives to book flights back home from South Africa days before their quarter-final against the tournament favourites.

The thinking persons football podcast

I only came across 'The Blizzard' in the past few weeks and figured I would try the podcasts as an intro to the publications. I love these episodes, they are perfect for the trips to and from work (45-60 minutes for me). They are insightful and well thought out.
I find a lot of media regarding football is rubbishy, and even opinion pieces seem to lack the quality and depth that 'The Bizzard' harnesses. I live in Sydney where our mainstream media outlets have invested interests in other types of football (Rugby League, AFL) and are heavily against traditional Football. Hearing a quality podcast highlighting stories from the world of football that are often lost or ignored brings a certain culture or insight that I wasn't witness to in the past.

Definitely recommend anyone who likes to think a bit to have a listen. I don't say that as a warning for non-intellectuals, I'm just a tradesman with basic education. It's just a refreshing change

Keep it up

Dear Floating Brain in a Jar, long may you continue to deliver the Blizzard. Been there since the start of the mag and easily the best there is out there - and pay what you like! Hopefully you are not all skint and scrapping to put it together each time. Podcasts always good value as well. When are you bringing the team to Sydney, you could always go and watch the South Coast Mariners at the best stadium in Australia with palm trees at one end and flying tomato sauce and mustard bottles at half-time.
