Lacking impartiality
I have quite enjoyed this program at times, however the impartiality of some of the journalists leaves me very disappointed.
Unbiased reporting of the University campus protests would be greatly appreciated. Yet another example of biased reporting by the Australian.
Bias masquerading as independent reporting
I genuinely could not believe that a relatively well respected body like the Australian could produce this news show. I listened to a pro-Israel, anti-Hamas diatribe go on and on.
I waited to hear the usual commentary that comes from balanced news outlets - no one’s hands are clean in any conflict, especially this one - but nothing came. On and on about Hamas and their brutality with no mention at all of the Palestinian civilian devastation, not just since October but over decades of Israeli conduct which contributed to the emergence of Hamas in the first place.
Compounding it was a diatribe about the UN, with the sort of superficial commentary that reflects wilful disregard for the impossibly difficult nature of international diplomacy, and the sort of unilateral thinking that has served to undermine the work of the UN over decades, resulting in the very impotence the commentator now decries. These sort of commentators can never offer meaningful insight, alternative possibilities or solutions, just withering superficial criticism of the efforts of people actually trying to address increasing global instability.
This isn’t a review about the Gaza conflict and the atrocities therein - it’s a review about a purportedly respectable mainstream news outlet delivering one-sided tirades and packaging it as legitimate reportage. Core journalistic ethics include independence, fairness, integrity, and public trust. Increasingly people don’t trust news outlets because of exactly this - positioning yourself as an independent outlet but offering content with clear bias.
There are so many incredible journalists out there. It continues to be disappointing when major outlets act to discredit the whole profession.
This podcast makes my skin crawl
This podcast is shameful. Today’s reporting on the UNs prosecutors finding that leader of of Israeli and Hamas are guilty of war crimes was actually just a 15 minutes of a guy trying to undermine the UN (plus lots of ads). 15mins of my life I’ll never get back.
I force myself to listen to the front from time to time, so I hear a range of media sources, but it makes my skin crawl.
