    Fintech, Financial Services and Superannuation with Senator Jane Hume

    Fintech, Financial Services and Superannuation with Senator Jane Hume

    In this episode I speak with Senator Jane Hume, the Assistant Minister for Financial Services, Fintech and Superannuation. We discuss the following topics;

    Open Banking
    The Consumer Data Right involves the sharing of your data with an accredited provider, and allows Open Banking to fuction. Launched in July 2020, it will focus for now on the banking sector, but in time the Consumer Data Right will move beyond financial services to other 'grudge' purchases like energy and insurance providers.

    Superannuation
    Jane acknowledges that despite the Australian super system being the envy for the majority of the world, it's still an imperfect system. There's a lot of options out there which can make selecting a fund difficult for people. On top of this there's persistent underperformers, issues around duplicate accounts, and insurances are still being paid by many people that aren't aware of what they're paying.

    Financial Services
    We discuss the different ways in which financial advice is becoming more accessible and affordable for Australians. Single issue advice can help with the affordability issue for those that don't have the financial capacity and/or time that holistic advice requires (e.g. the recent early release of super). Tech enabled solutions can help solve for accessibility issues people may face in trying to souce advice. We also discuss how robo-advice, which often combines technology with single issue advice, and how it can be a solution to help people looking for more affordable and accessible ways of getting financial advice.

    Teamwork and culture with Ray McLean (Leading Teams)

    Teamwork and culture with Ray McLean (Leading Teams)

    For this episode Ted speaks with Ray McLean who is the founder of Leading Teams, a group of experienced facilitators that assist sporting and corporate teams to lift their performance. You may be familiar with Leading Teams as they have been very successful with some high profile sporting teams over the last few decades.

    Ted first crossed paths with Ray back at the end of 2005 when he joined the Sydney Swans from his previous AFL club, the Essendon Bombers.

    In this podcast episode they discuss;

    • The importance of core values in determining accepted behaviour
    • Embracing "genuine" conversations
    • The Test (Amazon Prime) and The Last Dance (Netflix) documentaries and the accepted behaviour these sporting teams allowed.

    A lot of the conversation is centred on sport, but there are many similarities between the sporting and corporate worlds. In particular, they're both highly competitive where gaining just a small edge can make a big difference to the outcome.

RR convert by chance

By chance I saw Ted on the train about 3 months ago on my way to work and wondered what he was up to post footy and stumbled across his podcast. Absolutely love the diversity of guests he gets on the show and the manner in which he engages with them. A perfect combination of business, investment and sporting tales.

Financial advise & early release of superannuation = oxymoron

Usually enjoy this podcast, but struggled through Senator Jane Hume putting the terms ‘good financial advice’ and ‘early access to super’ together. Sounded like she means well but flawed premise imo.

Good to great

Thanks for your excellent perspective on “Good to Great”. Your personal insight on how it can be applied for individuals was really interesting. Also loved your episode with John Sevior. Keep up the good work Ted!
