Enneagram 8- I so appreciated this discussion

For most of my adult life I have not noticed much appreciation or positivity regarding my personal qualities as an eight (except from young people- and my faithful pet dogs).

A couple of weeks ago, I bought the liturgists material on the enneagram and was surprised and felt betrayed by their strongly negative comments about their experiences of eights. I was despondent and felt more confirmed than ever in my suspicion that being an eight meant that I had nothing legitimate to offer the Christian world and that I would as best off to keep trying to repress my eightishness.

Today, happening upon this pod, it amazed me and lifted my spirit with the hope that it might be possible to celebrate the power of the eight. Jo Saxton’s strength, passion and energy has renewed a sense of hope in me for healing. Especially the idea that God loves and celebrates who we are, especially as we integrate and live our gifts from that place of love. It was also amazing hearing Suzanne and Ian championing eight girls and recognizing our vulnerability (usually well hidden) and the leadership we can offer. I am feeling refreshed and encouraged. A great episode for eights and those who work and live with us. Please pray for the eights you know.

Episode 20 = cringeworthy

I’m usually a fan of this podcast so typically I’d leave a decent review if I’m gonna take the time to do so. However, can someone inform the elder (clueless) white lady host that it is not her place to tackle issues of race especially when she is not well informed???? I was HANGING for the guest to just go, “you know it’s better we don’t talk about this anymore”, but that sweet moment of concluding what felt like endless awkward race chatter never came. A white privileged lady asking about what it’s like to be a black male enneagram 8 being seen as aggressive... I can’t be the only one who found that SUPER uncomfortable and out of line. Check your privilege. -an enneagram EIGHT

Such insightful and lovely company!

I have read a bit about the enneagram over the years, but never have I encountered such warm and deeply thoughtful insights in to the subtlties of each type. I have been so moved at their philosophy that understanding your style can help you to be more free, and more yourself. Ian and Suzanne are just delightful to listen to. Thankfully throughout the series some of the audio recording problems in early episodes are fully resolved. But even in episodes where there are some recording issues, the content is so engaging it is quite forgivable. A wonderfully useful, reassuring and fascinating podcast.
