Tymofii Muzychuk, who won Eurovision in 2022 with the Kalush Orchestra, tells us what life has been like since their performance and why the song contest matters so much to his country.
And we catch up with Ukraine’s Eurovision TV commentator, Timur Miroshnychenko, who will again be covering the competition from a bunker.

Why is Victory Day such a big deal in Russia?
Vladimir Putin has been sworn in as Russia's president for a new six-year term, just days before Russia’s annual Victory Day military parade on 9 May.
But why does this annual event, marking victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, matter so much to Russia now?
We speak to Alexander Goncharov a former Russian military officer, who’s now head of the World War Two veterans organisation in Moscow.
And we discuss Victory Day’s symbolism with Russia editor Steve Rosenberg and Patricia Lewis from Chatham House.

The mayor of Bakhmut: a town that no longer exists
Ukraine's longest-serving official on death, exile and Vladimir Putin...
Victoria and Vitaly speak to Oleksiy Reva, the mayor of Bakhmut, who has been in his position since 1990.
The town he runs was the focus of one of the bloodiest battles of the war so far, and is now mostly in ruin.

Excellent Coverage on Ukraine
I’ve listened to every episode of the Podcast. It truly is informative and professional reporting. The war in Ukraine, sorry, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia is devastating, and many mainstream news reports only report on the war now and then, when it should be in the news daily.
Ukrainecast provides the best coverage. Thank you Ukrainecast for continuing to do so.
Main stream propaganda
I listened to every episode for a long, long time to stay informed and get an idea of the developing situation. I tried to ignore a few cringeworthy attempts from the pod at playing some emotional strings that struck me really bizarre and propagandistic. Add to this, the commentary from the men in the podcast, an undoubtedly very white, private boy school, obviously pro-establishment, very colonial perspective that for a while I could at least block and try and filter all the prejudice that comes with their language but there was always something very “icky” that stuck with me at the end of each episode.
The last straw for me was Palestine… their coverage and commentary (and their other pod that started to cover that conflict) is all mainstream white colonial rubbish.
At least for me now, the purpose Of this podcast Is to understand a Logic and moral standards that they clearly just apply to clients Of western states and not to the global south.
Is this for real
Every “expert” says Ukraine is winning, just look at the “counteroffensive” Ukraine has lost over 70000 troops in 3 months and no territorial gain. Remember the bbc is impartial. Lol haha what a joke
