2020.42 Happy Xmas / Give Peace a Chance (Shaved Fish) -- Antony Rotunno, John Lennon, The Beatles, Yoko Ono, Plastic Ono Band
Between the box sets, film soundtracks and compilations, there have been over a dozen repackagings of John Lennon on CD. This week, Antony Rotunno (Glass Onion, On John Lennon) joins the show as we start our consideration of these collections as we start to consider "Gimme Some Truth" (or as "Friends" might call it: "The one from 2020")
2020.41 Let It Down (Get Back composite) -- Sam Whiles, The Beatles, John Lennon, National Lampoon, Tony Hendra, Yoko Ono
Part two of our discussion with Sam Whiles (Paul or Nothing) covering the ties that bind. 1970 was John's turn to react to the dissolution of the Beatles. Meanwhile, George dedicated himself to "All Things Must Pass" and Ringo went further into Nashville. The lesson? Although both John and Paul had bid adieu to "The Beatles" as an entity, the four were still connected in ways personal, professional, economic and emotional.
2020.40 Starting Over (WNEW) -- David Spindel, George Harrison, Earl Slick, Bob Gruen, Annie Leibovitz
WTWF is proud to celebrate John Lennon's 80th birthday with photographer David M. Spindel (http://spindelvisions.com). Spindel was fortunate enough to book a gig in November 1980 with a musician (identity unknown) looking for documentation of a recording session at the hit Factory in New York City. That musician turned out to be John Lennon.
2020.39 Across the Universe (Get Back) -- Sam Whiles, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Derek Taylor
Sam Whiles (Paul or Nothing) joins the show for the first of two episodes looking at JPGR from the fall of 1969 to early 1971. John may have been the first to announce he "wanted a divorce", but even he would go back and forth on the matter. Just how close did the four come to a reconciliation? Further, how did "McCartney" and later "JL/Plastic Ono Band" reflect their fluctuating relationship? Next week: A special John Lennon-focused show, with Sam back in two weeks!
2020.bonus3 Twist and Shout (Beatlemania Now) -- Charles F. Rosenay!!!, Scot Arch, Beatlemania Now
