Today's Idea: "There are no beautiful surfaces without a terrible depth."

Today's Idea: "There are no beautiful surfaces without a terrible depth."

If you're struggling, consider this: often beauty, excellence, hyper-competence, the things that we consider extraordinary, didn't just manifest themselves. In most cases, beauty is the product of a life cycle that's seen, and is obscuring, its own fair share of Hell. In short, if we want to achieve greatness, it's imperative that we suffer. Similarly, to paraphrase another saying, "Everyone is fighting a private battle we know nothing about."
Nietzsche again saying so much in so few words.

Today's Idea: Nietzsche Vs Adler: "Here's how to make the most of your life"

Today's Idea: Nietzsche Vs Adler: "Here's how to make the most of your life"

If like is a gift, how the hell are we supposed to use it properly before it runs out - if it doesn't even come with an instruction manual? After all, we follow our parents' examples, but that's unsatisfying. And the people we hold up as heroes turn out to be no better than us, either. So what do we do? How do we operate? Life's a ticking time-bomb. Should we panic? What do we do? Nietzsche and Adler both reckon they know the answer, and thankfully, they're pretty much saying the same thing (though Nietzsche, typically, goes in harder with his studs facing up). Good news: it's not as bad as you think. Bad news: it's so simple, you may be underwhelmed. Until, that is, you actually apply this approach to every facet of your life... Thank you for listening, and hopefully see you tomorrow (*drives off cliff like Thelma and Louise, and wig flies off*)

Today's Idea: "If you follow the herd, you may end up in the abbatoir"

Today's Idea: "If you follow the herd, you may end up in the abbatoir"

All fanatics are liars, bending the truth to fit their own ideological views of the world. Worse still, argues Jung, they're likely hiding behind a fixed belief system in order to mask the hole within their souls that they don't have the courage to face. Little wonder then that they chose an ideology. "People prefer to judge," said Jung, because thinking is such hard work. So, in the face of so many people screaming their ideologies at you, what's the best path to take to steer away from such tyranny, to avoid "the abattoir", in order to become your own individual person. Herein Jung explains...

Today's Idea: When thinking, 'So What?' makes you strong. Insights from Andy Warhol.

Today's Idea: When thinking, 'So What?' makes you strong. Insights from Andy Warhol.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by concerns that aren't truly important, consider thinking like artist Andy Warhol, who used to respond in his mind by saying, "So what?" Warhol said it revolutionised his approach to the world and helped all his 'pretend worries' melt away. Here's what he said in full, and some reflections on how to apply it.

Today's Idea: Possibly the most powerful quote about life ever written. Wise words from Seneca.

Today's Idea: Possibly the most powerful quote about life ever written. Wise words from Seneca.

With every second, your life is passing. But, says Seneca, we act like we have an infinite supply. So stop living for other people, or selling yourself short, or pretending you'll be here forever. You won't. Time is the most precious commodity we have. So start your life now with gusto. Don't let it slip through your hands.
Thank you to a good friend who sent this quote to me.
