    The Coastal Shipping Service

    The Coastal Shipping Service

In the early days of Western Australia's settlement, the new coastal settlements and towns relied heavily on the coastal mail ships that delivered the mail, brought the news, and did so much more. These ships provided the only way these towns could communicate with the outside world. The coastal shipping service continued on after the telegraph line was put through, and after other options for transportation, road, rail and air, became much more reliable. This includes the story of those days, and of some of the adventures of those early ships.

Hook, line and sinker

Karli got me hooked from the very first episode and I just finished the most recent episode only a week later because I couldn’t help but binge listen. I’m not originally from Western Australia, but this has been my home for 20 years and it’s fascinating to hear the well researched and fleshed out stories of our mostly colonial past. I recently discovered I do have an ancestor that lived and died in WA through the gold rush era, so it was great to listen to these stories as well. I’m off to replay a few episodes now, just to concrete them into my memory :)

Black Jack

I loved this snapshot of a piece of WA history! Karli has done a heap of research and she told Black Jack’s story in an interesting and engaging manner with lots of fascinating detail. She has the perfect voice and tone for podcasting. I look forward to more stories. Thanks for creating this new podcast 😊
