27. Building Fans NOT Followers for your podcast
Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #27.
Today’s tip is about the importance of creating fans – NOT followers. Because fans will do business with you and will recommend you, whereas followers will not.
If we look at the definition of fan in the Cambridge dictionary:
“A fan is someone who admires and supports a person, sport, sports team.”
Other words associated with fan include: a devotee, an enthusiast, people who are adoring, are avid supporters, are ardent support.
Whereas let’s look at follower:
“someone who is interested in something.”
So quite different from a fan.
You’ve heard me share more about the Podcast Positioning Quadrant – and the importance of building a highly engaged and highly niched audience – a community of ideal clients who love everything about what you say, what you stand for, they resonate with your values, your voice and your vision – and they need what you have to offer. Therefore they are fans of your podcast, of you. They admire you and support you. They are devoted to you, your message and brand.
Versus someone who is just following you because they are interested in what you have to share.
Big difference.
Fans will binge listen to every episode. Followers just the ones that are of interest and when they get time.
Fans will share your podcast and will engage with you in your community. Followers won’t.
Fans will eventually do business with you, will recommend you and refer you. Followers won’t.
So, when it comes to your podcast, get to know and understand your ideal client so well that you create a unique and compelling listener experience so you continue to build a community of highly engaged fans.
I’ll see you in the next tip.

26. The number 1 rule when it comes to podcasting
Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #26.
You’ve heard me say this before in this #ListenerIntoLead Series and I’ll say it again.
There are NO rules to podcasting other than the rules you set yourself.
And, as the CEO of your business, you get to make the rules AND you get to break the rules if you want to, if you find something didn’t work as well as you had hoped. Or, because you changed your mind about something.
For instance, if you don’t have time to create an ongoing podcast – don't. Just like one of my clients, create an ever-green podcast series and continue to leverage that in your content sharing and seed and lead strategy.
Don’t want to do a long podcast episode? Don’t - keep them 5 minutes. Or 10 minutes, or whatever length that you believe best suits your ideal client.
Remember, your podcast, your rules – you get to make them and you get to break them.
Stop listening to people who tell you your podcast needs to be a certain length, that you need to publish at a certain frequency, or that you need sound effects, and all of the bells and whistles.
Remember, your podcast is a way that you can continue to build an audience of your ideal client, it allows you to continue to build know, like and trust with your ideal client, and when your ideal client is ready to move forward – he/she will take that next step, which is something I’ll be speaking about in tip in upcoming tips.
The only thing I will encourage you to do is make sure you are clear on the goals you want for your podcast (go back to tip 7) and then make sure the rules you set yourself and the strategy you use, best positions you to achieve the goals you want, with your podcast.
I’ll see you in the next tip.
YOUR NEXT STEP:

25. Your Umbrella Statement for your podcast
Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #25
Here’s another shout out to all of the multi-passionate #entrepreneurs who struggle with defining their ONE THING.
Because limiting yourself to just ONE THING seems totally foreign to you.
And, life is too short to just focus on ONE THING.
You’ve got diverse interests, you love learning, and having to choose just ONE THING gives you heart palpitations.
I get it! Guess what?!
You DON'T have to limit yourself to just ONE THING.
However, you DO have to change the way you speak about what you do – especially on your podcast.
Think of the ONE outcome you can help your client achieve through leveraging your unique blend of knowledge and experience you have to offer. Then create an outcome-focused statement you know your ideal client will notice.
☂️ I call that: Your Umbrella Statement.
Here’s an example:
When I worked in the career industry my statement was: Get Noticed, Hired & Paid What You’re Worth.
It's what my clients needed help with.
I offered resume development, interview coaching, job search coaching etc., which sat under that statement.
Now with #businesses I help them: Build their Reach, Reputation (as a trusted authority) and their Revenue, with my expertise in #PersonalBranding, Business and #Podcast strategy.
Over to you.
Think about the ways you can help people and through combining your expertise what is the outcome you help them achieve and developing this into an overarching statement – Your Umbrella Statement.
And then begin sharing that within your podcast. In fact, your Umbrella Statement may just become the tagline of your podcast, or help you refine your podcast name, if you’re still in the process of launching your podcast.
I’ll see you in the next tip.
YOUR NEXT STEP:
Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? Do you feel unnoticed, unheard, invisible?

24. Authenticity is Paramount for your podcast
Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #24
Ever heard the saying ‘marketers ruin everything’? EVERY Tom, Dick and Harry (sorry to all of the Tom, Dick and Harry’s out there – no offence to you) however just making my point that every sadly unscrupulous marketer under the sun – jumps on the bandwagon overusing something so much – that it can become tarnished.
For me the word ‘authentic’ is integral. My leading Brand Archetype is Explorer and the Explorer is all about pioneering the discover of our truth. So, words such as unique, individual, authentic are words that express what I stand for, what I help people with – helping them identify what’s unique and authentic for them and helping them bring that out into their marketing and content.
So, for me Authenticity when it comes to your personal Brand (and my background is in personal branding) is integral. Which is why one of my core personal branding principles is Authenticity is NOT a buzzword – it's paramount.
Because the opposite of authenticity is fake, which is why I cringe when I hear other marketers tell their clients – just make up a story. Just fake it. Yuk!
You’re a change maker and change makers don’t fake things, they don’t lie.
Instead, being authentic means being genuine and being REAL. The real deal!
And, that’s how you should be on each and every episode of your podcast. Whether you are interviewing guests or doing a solo show on your own.
So, over to you. What does authenticity and being authentic mean to you and what aspects of being authentic will you continue to bring forward on your podcast?
I’ll see you in the next tip.
