B2: Hiking With a Husky / Holy Mother of Learning Curves!

B2: Hiking With a Husky / Holy Mother of Learning Curves!

Episode Summary: In this subscriber episode of “Yeti Walks Into Basecamp” we do a bit of verbal processing with our subscribers. Hiking with a dog can be difficult. Hiking with a 1-year-old, relatively untrained husky is a bit more so. We discuss some of the highs and lows of our experience so far, hiking over the last 3.5 months with our new girl, Loba. She’s a light to our day but adds a whole new level of difficulty and planning that we need to consider. Additionally, we cover some of the gear we use with her, and some things we are hoping to get in the future. We record this one from our tent, so just ignore the sleepy sounds and sleeping bag rustles. Thanks for subscribing and being a part!

Topics: dogs, hiking with a dog, husky, hardships

The Scoop: Want to hear all of our episodes, including the Bonus episodes (B1, B2…)? You can! Subscribe to the podcast at either Spotify, Apple, or Patreon.

    E29: But Why? / LNT / Jesse & Elena / Part 1

Episode Summary: In this episode of “Yeti Walks Into Basecamp” we speak with the Subaru/LNT team, Jesse & Elena. They spend some 11 months traveling the U.S. to teach and preach the message of leave no trace (LNT) while camping along the way. Think that’s a lot of gas use? Well, there may be a change in store there too! In this first half of a 2-part episode, we cover some of the first 2 LNT principles (there are 7 in total) and discuss a lesser known, visibly stunning trail in Hawaii- the Kalalau Trail (a ~22 mi. out and back). Sit in for this first half and become a semiprofessional in LNT.

Topics: LNT, leave no trace, Kalalau Trail, plan ahead, prepare, camp on durable surfaces, stewards, stewardship, wicked problems
