    today today today (Alec Finlay)

Alec Finlay's 'today today today' reflects on illness & healing. The project combines an animation, blog, booklet, and poem-audio, created for his artist residency at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, Glasgow. Hand-written copies of the poems were gifted to patients. The project title is after a motto composed by John Ruskin.

The booklet containing these poems is published by Playspace Publications (2013). The blog is available at www.alecfinlay-today.com

The project is a commission by Animate Projects and is supported by Wellcome Trust.

    Global Oracle (Alec Finlay)

Global Oracle: a work of prophetic science. Poem: Alec Finlay; sound-design: Chris Watson. The recording accompanies the book-length poem Global Oracle (morning star, 2014). As part of the same project, Finlay created an installation of bee-themed artworks at Talbot Rice Gallery in 2014, as part of the Generation series, and will create a permanent work on the campus of the University of Warwick, in 2015.

"Global Oracle explores the relationship between bees, prophecy in Ancient Greece, and GPS satellite navigation systems, such as our contemporary oracle, Garmin. It offers a touching paean to dwelling, and an elegy for the fate of the bees, which is our fate." (Alec Finlay)

The project is a commission by The University of Warwick Art Collection.
