This shorty episode is for all of the mompreneurs who are looking for ways to lighten the load by hiring help without taking on a full-time employee or payroll - the answer is Virtual Assistants!
Hiring a virtual assistant can be a game changer as you grow your business. If you are beginning to toy with the idea of hiring employees, this is a terrific way to test-drive that process. I walk you through a few ideas of how they can streamline your time, and potential tasks to outsource so more of your time is freed up to do what you do best, run your business!

209. Why decorating can be more lucrative than design
Let’s tackle the stigma that exists against decorating! A lot of designers, my past self included, hesitate to call themselves decorators, and instead go by designer because they believe it sounds more prestigious.
In this episode, I’m diving into why using the term decorator doesn’t mean anything less than designer, and why I’ve decided to lean into my decorating services and how it’s boosting my business, and can be a boost for yours too!
Over the years, I’ve done my fair share of projects and found that decorating is the thing that truly lights me up. It is one of the reasons that I’ve decided to make it a key factor for projects I choose to take on going forward. Despite what many people believe, you can make a great deal of money in decorating, and in this episode I share some quick ideas for those of you looking to expand more into that direction.
I also share some surprising things I've learned about decorating in my journey so far, things to keep in mind and the shifts I'm making this year regarding this element of my business.
Remember that you as a designer are telling a story and decorating is a huge, vital part of that narrative for you and your clients.

Why you need an online presence for your business [Rebroadcast]
We’re bringing back this fantastic episode that is short, sweet, and straight to the point: social media is an incredibly valuable tool to share your "why" with your ideal client and you need to participate even if it isn't perfect. Jump in!
----
When I initially started my Instagram account years ago, I struggled with the idea behind it, was it for vanity or competition? I think this is sometimes a struggle that some business owners have. In this episode, I explain the main reasons why you need to have an online presence to grow your business.
In my opinion, it all starts with this quote by Simon Sinek, “People don’t buy what you do, they buy WHY you do it.” Meaning: there are so many interior designers out there, but every single one has a different purpose behind the service they offer. Social media is a powerful tool to share the “WHY” of your business.
I also cover the doubts that many people have of Instagram and other social media platforms actually working to attract your ideal client. Years ago I would have been alongside the Nay-sayers, but in recent years, mainly in 2020-2021, I’ve been singing a different tune, because almost all of my leads that turned into design jobs followed me on Instagram or had seen my designs on Instagram before they contacted me. Put in the work, and it does pay off. Being present on social media platforms adds to your legitimacy as a company. It gives you a chance to educate your ideal client on what you do, how you do it, and why you do and build a rapport with them before they reach out to you. A lot of what service-based businesses do relies on the trust of their clients, building this relationship early on just helps with that trust factor, and makes you relatable to them.
In the episode, I also speak to the two other reasons why you should have an online presence and that is: reinforcing your brand and selling a lifestyle. I’d love to hear about your thoughts on being active and present online and on social media. Leave me a comment below.

208. Keeping motivated: secrets to sustaining your entrepreneurial drive
Running your own business is like living on a roller coaster, we're up and we're down constantly. We all go through this and sometimes can get stuck in the messy middle, so this episode is all about keeping the tank full of motivation.
Even if you are passionate about your work, there will be ups and downs. Accepting this as a reality can be pretty powerful and noting that motivation ebbs and flows will keep you from catastrophizing or wallowing. Through the episode, I share some previous podcast episodes that deal with this topic (check out the shownotes!), a visualization exercise from my Power of Process course, and the power of tools, like time blocking.
Know you aren't alone when you feel stagnant in your business; all things have their ups and downs. Identifying what lights you up and filling up your inspiration tank will allow you to have the tools ready the next time this feeling comes around.
