C’est dans un climat de tensions que s’est tenu le Salon International de l'Agriculture (SIA) du 24 février au 3 mars 2024 à Paris – un incontournable pour Nourrir l'Europe. Alors que la colère paysanne grondait dans toute l’Europe, les agriculteurs français ont fait entendre leur voix dans les allées du Salon. L’édition 2024 aura été marquée par de nombreuses manifestations.

Comment, dans ce contexte, confronter les points de vue sans exacerber les crispations ? Le débat modéré en public par Olaf Bruns pour Nourrir l’Europe a tenté de relever le défi. Son thème : que fait l'Europe pour l'agriculture ? Autour de la table : Christiane Lambert, présidente du Copa, le Comité des organisations professionnelles agricoles de l'Union européenne, et Catherine Geslain-Lannéelle, directrice en charge de la stratégie et de l'analyse politique à la Direction Générale de l'Agriculture de la Commission européenne.

Tour à tour, elles sont revenues sur ce qu’apporte l'Union Européenne aux citoyens en général, et aux agriculteurs en particulier : sécurité alimentaire, marché commun, aides... Elles ont aussi abordé la frustration des agriculteurs, noyés sous un 'tsunami administratif', et les réponses à lui apporter – notamment les mesures proposées récemment par la Commission.

Trotz heftiger Bauernproteste fand vom 24. Februar bis 3. März 2024 in Paris die internationale Landwirtschaftsmesse Salon International de l'Agriculture statt – ein Muss für 'Nahrung für Europa'. Während in ganz Europa der Zorn der Landwirte brodelte, verschafften sich die französischen Bauern in den Gängen der Messe Gehör.

Wie kann man vor diesem Hintergrund Standpunkte einander gegenüberstellen, ohne die Spannungen zu verschärfen? In unserer live-Debatte haben wir versucht, uns dieser Herausforderung zu stellen. Das Thema: was tut Europa für die Landwirtschaft? Am Tisch saßen Christiane Lambert, Vorsitzende von Copa, dem Ausschuss der berufsständischen landwirtschaftlichen Organisationen der Europäischen Union, und Catherine Geslain-Lannéelle, Direktorin für Strategie und politische Analyse in der Generaldirektion Landwirtschaft und ländliche Entwicklung der Europäischen Kommission.

Beide gingen darauf ein, was die Europäische Union den Bürgern im Allgemeinen und den Landwirten im Besonderen bringt: Nahrungsmittelsicherheit, gemeinsamer Markt, Beihilfen... Sie sprachen auch über die Frustration der Landwirte, die sich unter einem 'Verwaltungs-Tsunami' begraben fühlen, und über mögliche Antworten darauf – insbesondere die Maßnahmen, die die Kommission kürzlich vorgeschlagen hat.

It was in a climate of tension that the Salon de l’Agriculture International (International Agricultural Show) was held from 24 February to 3 March 2024 in Paris – something that Food for Europe simply couldn’t miss.

As farmers’ anger rumbled across Europe, French farmers made their voices heard at the show. The 2024 edition was marred by scuffles and damage. How, in this context, can we evoke opinions and perspectives without exacerbating tensions? The public debate moderated by Olaf Bruns for Food for Europe attempted to rise to the challenge.

Its theme? What is Europe doing for agriculture? The programme’s two guests were Christiane Lambert, President of COPA, the Committee of Professional Agricultural Organisations of the European Union, and Catherine Geslain-Lannélle, director in charge of strategy and policy analysis at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Agriculture. They discussed what the European Union brings to citizens in general, and to farmers in particular, including food security, a single market and financial support. They also discussed the frustration of farmers who say they are drowning in an 'administrative tsunami' and how to respond to it – including the measures recently proposed by the Commission to lighten the burden.

Le projet est ambitieux : façonner une vision commune de l’avenir du système agricole et alimentaire de l’UE. Face à des défis croissants, l’UE cherche les meilleurs moyens de soutenir ses agriculteurs et d’adapter ses politiques agricoles et environnementales en tenant compte de leurs besoins. Quelles seront les méthodes de travail, les thèmes abordés, quand et sous quelle forme les conclusions de ce dialogue seront-elles présentées ? L’équipe de « Nourrir l’Europe » s’est rendue à Munich pour une interview exclusive de Peter Strohschneider, le président de ce Forum.

On 25 January 2024, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, launched the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of European Agriculture. The project is ambitious: to shape a common vision for the future of the EU's agriculture and food system.
