Strap on your binoculars and lace up your boots: A Field Guide to Gay Animals explores sexuality, gender, and joy in the animal world.
Hosts Owen Ever and Laine Kaplan-Levenson take you on a quest to see beyond the natural world as we know it and into the natural world as it is: queer as f*ck.
Homosexuality has been documented in over 1,500 species of animals. From gay geese and bisexual bison to lesbian elephant love affairs and all-male, all-whale orgies, expressions of same-sex action in the animal queendom are all around us.
Owen and Laine are your intrepid guides to investigate this variety of animal behaviors – exploring the depths of the ocean, the heart of the forest, and the bushes in your backyard – to dive deep into nuanced conversations about queerness in the animal world.
Cheeky and contemplative, curious and raunchy, Field Guide shows you the natural world is more exuberant, more joyful, and more gay than you could possibly imagine.
Coming in June, 2024.

    GAY TIME

    GAY TIME

Synopsis: Owen, Laine and a 200 year-old gay tortoise explore the history of scientific research into gay animals. From gay swans to self-pleasuring elephants and amorous giraffes, they learn how scientists have been understanding and misunderstanding queerness in nature for centuries. And they introduce us to a bold researcher in the 1990’s who helped us see nature for what it is – queer as fuck.
Guest: Joe Hollins - author of Vet at the End of the Earth

    GAY ARK

    GAY ARK

Synopsis: In search of a face-to-snout meeting with real Gay animals, Laine travels to the Humble Pig Animal Sanctuary. There they meet a crew of runaway dogs, feral chickens, and escapees from the pig farm whose sexuality is allowed to flourish in a new environment. Then, Owen and Laine speak with Dr. Laurel Braitman about how zoos and natural history museums tell us a straighter story about animals than the animals themselves.

Guests: Eliza Zeitlin, from Humble Pig Animal Sanctuary, and Dr. Laurel Braitman, author of Animal Madness: Inside Their Minds
