Hi all and welcome to www.grantvanzyl.com. This is where you will improve your financial literacy. I will be translating the difficult terminology of economics and complex jargon surrounding it, into something that is as easy to read as the daily newspaper. It’s almost like the ABC’s of the alphabet, once you have the foundation of anything, you can understand it much better.

What you want is a coach that takes an active interest in your financial life, not just a planner that helps you once and then disappears. I can be that coach for you.

After having many years of experience (started in 2002) in the financial sector and being a large shareholder in the successful financial firm, HvZ Financial Consultants, and having a postgraduate diploma in Financial Planning (and also NQF 4-6 and Cum Laude in Wealth Management), I assure you I have learnt many tricks along the way (and I am still learning more), that I am going to share with you all. However I am not admitting to have all of the answers, so whatever I'm not sure about, we can learn together.

Do you want to broaden your mind to business?

Then the interviews that I do with top South African business men and women will be perfect for you! You can get a deep insight into what makes them tick and what turns them off.

At the end of the day, we can build our community into a thriving haven. The better we all do, the better our community will do and the more opportunities there will be for us all.

So on this blog, you will be given as much relevant information as possible and challenged in all of our capacities when it comes to being the next generation of leaders.

You can interact on this blog, feel free to email me any questions or post your questions on my articles.

If you have any questions on anything to do with the financial sector (investments, loans, debt, health insurance, short term insurance, long term insurance) or entrepreneurship or simply, would like an explanation on certain topics, please feel free to mail me on grant@hvz.co.za and I will do my best to reply as fast as I can.

I am looking forward to the journey and I am excited to see where the adventure takes us.

Grant van Zyl. www.grantvanzyl.com

I am Grant van Zyl, a Certified Financial Planner, with 12 years of experience in the financial industry. I am passionate about the financial world and making a difference in how Financial Planning is perceived in South Africa.

I live in Somerset West where I am a shareholder in a Financial Firm, HvZ Financial Consultants.

I have had an entrepreneurial spirit and fascination with business from a young age. This fascination led me to start my own car washing company when I was 13 years old, as well as being the most successful newspaper delivery boy in the area. Straight after completing school, I started to work at my father's financial firm and have not looked back since.

I won my first Gold Prestige award from Discovery, in 2004, after being a financial planner for only a year. I went on to do so in 2005-2007 and also 2012 -2013.
By 2006, I had already established an impact in the financial firm (HvZ Financial Consultants) that I was working for and was offered to buy in and become a partner in the firm.
In 2007 I became a member of the FIA and continue to be a member and strive to make a difference in the financial industry.
In 2010 I completed my postgraduate in Certified Financial Planning and am very proud to have this internationally recognized qualification and professional designation.

I am a member of the Investment Analyst Society of South Africa and also the Young Advisors Forum of South Africa.

I believe that there is no substitute for hard work and living out our passions.

I love life, my wife, my family and friends, outdoors and a well balanced life. I love connecting with people so feel free to send me a message at anytime.

    Stephen Young Interviewed by Grantvanzyl.com

    Stephen Young Interviewed by Grantvanzyl.com

Stephen has been working as a programmer, architect and manager for the last 12 years so he has a strong bias towards helping junior programmers and software development teams improve and perform to the best of their ability.

He discusses the ins and outs of being a top programmer, gives helpful tips for future and current programmers, managers and entrepreneurs as well as letting us in on how he has learnt from past experiences, to become more and more successful.

Since Stephen was young he has always preferred teaching himself, rather than having a structured syllabus. This formed an obsession for constantly doing research and finding answers to the complicated things in life.

Over time he noticed that he was forming connections and finding patterns in unrelated fields and using knowledge he gained from studying the rudiments of things like cognitive psychology when trying to figure out why he was seeing certain behaviours in the teams that he worked in.

Stephen is interested in communicating and applying those underlying principles and connections in a way that is useful to the teams he works in.
Stephen enjoys to focus on underlying principles and not technologies.
