In 2019, the Event Horizon Project, led by astrophysicist and UMass dad Shep Doeleman, captured the very first picture of a black hole, a behemoth 6.5 billion times the mass of our sun and located more than 55 million lightyears away — galaxy giant Messier 87's gravitational center. Doeleman joined Humans in 2021 to celebrate the two year anniversary of the unprecedented image, to chart the years of research that led to its capture, and to forecast the next discoveries and frontiers in the study of supermassive black holes.

Sofia Maroulis, a sophomore fashion entrepreneur at UMass, answers her most commonly received question in this episode of Humans, the same question that headlines her clothing and jewelry brand's Instagram page: "tf is a Lippy?" We talk about her creative inspiration and the mechanics of her small business, which flourished on campus before the COVID-19 pandemic arrived. Abram Brown founded Night Owl to bring grilled cheese to dorm rooms after hours– Thursday through Saturday from 10:30 pm to 1:30 am, when demand for food was high and supply was scant. We talked about how he got his infant business off the ground and where he aspires to take it in coming semesters. This episode was hosted, produced and edited by Rebeca Pereira.
