S2-E5 | Jam Jones | Teacher/ Investor/ Designer | Currently a Teacher in Pyeongtaek, South Korea Kadam - The small steps podcast

    • Careers

Moving abroad and being in a culture that is totally different from what you’re used to is often not everyone’s cup of tea. Being in a place where people sometimes have to touch your skin or your hair to realize that you are a real, actual human can be scary for some people. Those that go through it with an open mind and a willingness to share and learn are some of the most diverse individuals. It’s honestly sad that not everyone that is willing to go through this experience gets this kind of opportunity because it can be an eye-opening and horizon-broadening time of one’s life.

Our guest this week not only went through this experience when she studied abroad in Taiwan, but also goes through it almost all the time now as an English teacher in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. But how did Jam get from wanting to be a full time designer to teaching in East Asia? She shares her experiences and takes us through a journey from searching “creative jobs that pay well” to the happy and satisfied place that she believes she is in now. We speak about drawing comparisons with those around us and while it’s not a topic we had similar views about, we give two different perspectives of that, both with very valid arguments. Listen in to decide which one you think you support, and to learn much more on this week’s episode!
