Joining me are two special guests that recently soaked in the sun and wisdom at the latest Creating Magic Mastermind in Orlando, Florida. I always say each event is better than the last, and this time was no exception. Katie Currens and Tim Dyck are going to help unpack the event and the impact it has had on them. This Mastermind is one where the word "be" became a powerful mantra given by, Lee Cockrell, advocating for presence and authenticity in our everyday encounters.
Katie returns for her third mastermind experience, and admittedly echoes my sentiment that this may have been the best one yet. And after years of attempting to come, Tim Dyck shares his eagerness to learn from a group of so many uniquely motivated individuals. We explore how Lee emphasized the need for personal responsibility and what it truly means to "be" in business and life.
    Some of our key takeaways:
Embrace the Opportunity to “Be": Remember, who you are is as important as what you do. Infuse "being" into your daily practices. Learn from the Collective: The combined knowledge and experiences of a group can be a catalytic force for personal and professional development. Act with Intent: Acknowledge problems, move past excuses, and deliberately craft the life you envision through thoughtful planning and action. The mastermind isn't just an event; it's a journey. This episode offers more than just a glimpse into a mastermind; it invites you into a circle of professionals passionate about deliberate living and authentic being. For anyone looking to tap into a network of motivation and actionable advice, consider this your call to action to join the next Creating Magic Mastermind this fall. As we were reminded during the most recent event, it's not just the years of service, but rather the experiences we create for others and ourselves that carve out a life well-lived.
Ready to dive into the magic yourself? Stay tuned for registration details for our fall mastermind event. Spots will fill quickly, so keep an eye on your inbox for the opportunity to be part of this life-changing experience.

    Preparing for the Spotlight
Liz Wilcox returns for another conversation. This time we flip the script and she gets to ask me three questions. We talk about preparing how to prepare for the spotlight when you face big moments and unexpected attention. Highlights from our conversation include:
Embrace Your Uniqueness: I spent a lot of time initially doubting my voice for podcasting. Over time I came to realize that my uniqueness became one of my biggest assets. It's what gets me recognized time and time again. Embrace what sets you apart, as it may be the very thing that captivates others. Leadership Transition: As you move up in leadership, remember it's not about you – it's about removing obstacles for your team. There is an impactful way to make the transition from being technically proficient in a role to effectively leading others. Turn the focus from oneself to the team, empowering leaders to listen, remove obstacles, and lead with empathy. Ground Yourself: I touched upon self-preparation for heightened visibility and being in the spotlight, emphasizing the significance of grounding oneself, and reconnecting with your purpose to navigate increased attention effectively. Make sure to listen to the full episode for more on how to ground yourself to stay true to your purpose and intention. Shifting from a successful RV travel blog to establishing a thriving membership site doesn’t happen by chance. For Liz Wilcox it came down to leaning into her authentic self with a desire to help others on a topic she knows well; email marketing.
Liz is a great example of someone that has made an impact by leveraging her unique strength.  She realized her potential in email marketing despite being known as a sarcastic RV blogger. Embracing her education background and passion for helping people, she pivoted to start a successful email marketing membership site, serving thousands while staying true her authentic self.
One of the ways she started to help others was by building a community. By offering a $9 per month membership, she was able to focus on making a large impact for a large number of people, echoing Costco's model. This approach made email marketing templates and tools accessible to many entrepreneurs. In turn by creating a supportive community she is bringing in consistent revenue.
Authenticity breeds comfort. By being her authentic self she has allowed others to feel safe and comfortable in her community. She encourages them to embrace their unique selves. Promoting psychological safety and creating a sense of community has been a key to her membership's success.

Dealing With What You Don't Know

Dealing With What You Don't Know

Dealing with What You Don't Know
Recently Dan Cockerell announced a significant career shift. After spending five and a half years traveling and teaching worldwide, he has embraced the opportunity in Australia to return to a leadership role. Throughout his entrepreneurial journey, Dan and his wife Valerie have used their knowledge and experience to inspire and teach others. However, life led them to unexpected paths and opportunities, prompting them embark on a new adventure. During our conversation we discuss some of the challenges that have come with navigating unknown territory in a new job.
One of the things Dan is great at is his willingness to admit that there are things he doesn't know. Even better is his commitment to seeking guidance and insight. He emphasizes the significance of acknowledging one's blind spots and humbly reaching out to industry experts for advice. Through humility and curiosity you can foster a continuous learning mindset, which is critical for leaders.
As he transitions to the education industry, Dan understands the importance of cultivating a mission-driven focus in a for-profit organization. There is a delicate balance between delivering educational impact while ensuring the organization's financial sustainability. This is something felt by entrepreneurs and leaders in various sectors. There is often a unique dance between mission, profitability, and the need to make impactful decisions that benefit all stakeholders.
Something I often share is the power of meaningful connections and networking. That starts by seeking guidance and insight from your own team. Dan has often seen success when leaders advocate for a collaborative decision-making process that helps leverage the expertise and insights of the collective team. Successful organizations utilize collaboration and collective wisdom to guide strategic decisions.
As Dan prepares for his move to Australia, he recognizes the importance of understanding cultural nuances and interpersonal dynamics in a new work environment. Lean into genuine curiosity about a culture and having an eagerness to adapt to new terminologies. Change is not always easy, but approach it with a growth mindset and openness to embracing unfamiliar experiences.
Dan's journey serves as a testament to the power of connection, adaptability, and continuous learning. Take a listen to this episode for more about embracing a new adventure, seeking new opportunities, and approaching life with curiosity and authenticity.

    The Impact of Stories
Richard Stone, recent guest and author of "Story Intelligence," returns to the show to ask me three thought-provoking questions. His questions lead us to a conversation about the influence of personal stories. It is always amazing how recalling stories can lead to powerful moments of self-reflection and connection. This shows the significance of sharing experiences and the impact it has on resilience and growth.
The first power of stories is their ability to transport us to different places and times. As I reminisce about my childhood I recall a fond memory of the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales." The geographical setting of the movie really hit me and my family history in Missouri. Movies and shows are perfect examples of the emotional connection and nostalgic impact of storytelling. Just ask young Jody why he was so set on setting up a tape recorder to capture movie dialogues.
Instrumental reminiscence is the act of remembering challenging times and learning from them. A poignant memory for me was my father's battle with cancer. As I think about that time, I’ve discovered that while there was a perception of stoicism and bravery, it masked my father’s underlying vulnerability and fear. Realizing this helps shape my approach to openness and communication with my own children. This experience showcases the significant influence of personal challenges on parenting and resilience.
Envisioning new possibilities begins with a willingness to embrace the excitement of the unknown. There is something to be said about purposefully navigating through life with an adventurous spirit. My own journey from the heart of Illinois to the west coast is a reminder of the power envisioning new horizons can have on our personal and professional transformation. Richard points out that an openness to change and unwavering curiosity ignites a passion for embracing life's uncertainties. That is what will lead us to unexpected career shifts and enriching experiences.
Our personal stories have the power to uplift, inspire, and connect. While it may not feel easy, finding a willingness to share vulnerable moments helps remind others of the power of storytelling. It’s one of the best ways to foster empathy and resilience. Make sure to listen to this episode for a vulnerable conversation on the impact of stories.
