Gutting the Sacred Cow invites guests to argue why some of the most financially successful, beloved or acclaimed films are trash or overrated. But here's the twist, the film must meet 1 of these criteria: widely beloved, financial success, or critically acclaimed. Standup comedians Kevin Gootee and Kevin Israel love films and they love arguing about them.. But will they agree with their guests arguments or feed them into a wood chipper?

We give a platform with those who have unpopular opinions to be bold enough to voice them. What are some films that have faced scrutiny: Back to the Future, Goodfellas, Shawshank Redemption, the Dark Knight, Toy Story, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the Matrix, and Die Hard. Can the guests persuade us or do we rip them a new one?

Give us a listen and we'll easily prove that we belong on any top movie podcast list. We throw plenty of fun segments in the mix: 5 fun facts, our readers have us ask our guests questions they'd like answered in "Ask a Gutter", critics 5 and 1 star reviews and our FAVORITE segment, reading Amazon 5 and 1 star reviews.; You'll never go down a more fun rabbit hole than hearing crazy people asking for refunds while submitting their personal info for payment.

We also give you movie and TV recommendations in our bonus segment aptly titled, "What Did We Watch" So if you want spirited movie debate and wonder what the hell is wrong with some people who hate some of these treasured films or if you secretly agree these beloved movies are awful, this podcast is for you.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind BANISHED to Area 51 by Chris Woolsey Episode 217 GTSC podcast

Star Wars, Star Trek, 2001 A Space Odyssey arere probably the most influential science fiction films of all time. Chris Woolsey from Crackle returns to take on arguably THE most influential, iconic, and copied sci-film of all time, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Richard Dreyfus stars as one of the worst movie parents/spouses who's more interested in throwing flower pots through windows and making mountains out of mashed potatoes. Chris explains how Steven Spielberg made a truly uninteresting, boring film that's beloved by alien nerds and why this movie is iconic only for the 5 notes.

Spielberg lover Kevin Gootee invited fellow fanboy Kevin Israel back for another round of, "Is this Gutter's argument foolish or are they making sense?" The boys also discuss the list of Spielberg hits and misses as well as how many alien encounters there can be.

Lastly, make SURE you stay for the announcement at the end of the episode, it's a doozy!

Alex Hooper PRESSES RESET on Edge of Tomorrow episode 216 GTSC podcast

Alex Hooper PRESSES RESET on Edge of Tomorrow episode 216 GTSC podcast

The GREATEST action hero in the last 25 years is without question, Tom Cruise, had a rare underperforming film with Edge of Tomorrow. It underperformed so much in North America, they changed the title to Live, Die, Repeat which was the title of the Manga comic book/graphic novel/whatever you nerds call it. Alex Hooper loves Tom Cruise films as well as Emily Blunt (and who doesn't?) but he doesn't love the lack of pretext and disjointed plot.

Cruise superfan and Mission Impossible lover, Kevin Gootee, LOVED this film when it came out. Does it stand the test of time unlike his marriage to Katie Holmes, Mimi Rodgers, and Nicole Kidman? Faithful back massager Kevin Israel straps on a mech suit and gets ready for some grab ass good times. The guys discuss where Emily Blunt ranks on the list of female ass kickers/action heroes. And of course, an abundance of Tom Cruise jokes flow. Lastly, the trio lament if Catherine Zeta Jones arching through laser beams was an acceptable excuse for Michael Douglas to get HPV in the throat.
