The Book of Esther: Not A Fairytale

This four-week series explores the story of Esther. Through understanding the book's backstory and context, we can see that Esther is not a fairy tale, but an understanding of how God works behind the scenes with imperfect people in a hostile environment.

Esther tells the story of God working behind the scenes to raise a Jewish girl to be queen in ancient Persia. We will let God work behind the scenes in our lives.

Isaiah calls all of Israel to hope in the promises of God and prepare for his total restoration of all creation to himself. His justice will bring about fullness for all who will believe. We are called to see that God does have a plan. We can trust his promises and rely on him in times of uncertainty, because he will prove faithful to the end.

The Servant calls our attention to God’s justice for the whole world. We must admit that God desires good for all of humanity—even if some human beings don’t want the good he offers for themselves. Our task is to live in response to the goodness of God so that the world can enjoy the mercy he longs to give.

God permitted nations to overtake Israel, but only for a season. As their relationship is restored, he will bring justice for the way that her captors took advantage of her.
