Midweek MIni | Teen Murders Mother Then Escapes Jail Multiple Times | Ike Souzer

Midweek MIni | Teen Murders Mother Then Escapes Jail Multiple Times | Ike Souzer

In this midweek true crime documentary episode, Ky delves into the questionable and violent case of Ike Souzer, a young man with a history of escaping authorities and a troubling past. Ike, who was described as autistic and had a troubled childhood, first made headlines when he brutally stabbed his mother, Barbara Schuer Souzer, in their Garden Grove, California home. Despite being convicted of voluntary manslaughter, Ike's story doesn't end there.

While awaiting trial in juvenile court, Ike attacked a corrections officer and escaped, only to be captured the next day. His repeated offenses, including attacking three correctional officers and making a shiv while in custody, apparently weren't enough to keep him behind bars. Judges repeatedly gave him lenient sentences, reducing felony charges to misdemeanors and releasing him early with just an ankle bracelet for monitoring.

Despite being labeled as "extremely dangerous" and a "significant threat to public safety," Ike managed to escape again in April 2022 by removing his ankle bracelet. He was eventually found in a homeless encampment in Anaheim, California. In October 2023, he was convicted of making a shiv, but the judge still opted for a lenient sentence, citing the need for reintegration services over prison time.

After his final escape to Rosarito, Mexico, and subsequent arrest by Mexican officials, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer criticized the judges for their leniency, arguing that Ike had turned every opportunity for reform into another chance to break the law. As of now, Ike is back in custody, but his future remains uncertain.

What do you think of the judges' decisions? Should Ike have been given more severe sentences? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

True Crime Tuesday | Roommate Triple Homicide and High-Speed Chase | Alyssa Jane Venable

True Crime Tuesday | Roommate Triple Homicide and High-Speed Chase | Alyssa Jane Venable

In this true crime documentary episode of Love and Murder: Heartbreak to Homicide, Ky dives into a case that will leave you questioning the behavior of some people. On June 6, 2024, police in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, responded to a welfare check that unveiled a gruesome scene. Three adults—77-year-old Robert John McGuire, 60-year-old Gregory Scott Powell, and 65-year-old Carol Ann Reese—were found dead with severe trauma to their upper bodies. The prime suspect? Their 23-year-old roommate Alyssa Jane Venable.

Alyssa, who had moved in just a month prior, was soon identified as the main suspect. The investigation revealed that one victim was shot in the head, another was found in the bathroom, and the third was discovered in the garage, covered by a table and a mattress. As police moved to arrest Alyssa, she led them on a high-speed chase from Virginia to New York, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour before being apprehended after driving over spike strips.

Alyssa now faces extradition to Virginia, where she will be charged with three counts of second-degree murder and one count of using a firearm during the commission of a felony. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to release a motive for the killings.

This episode raises many questions: What could have driven Alyssa to commit such acts? Why did she feel the need to flee?

Midweek Wednesday | Oregon Daughter Unknowingly Helps in Father's Murder Cover-Up | Zachary Hackman

Midweek Wednesday | Oregon Daughter Unknowingly Helps in Father's Murder Cover-Up | Zachary Hackman

On October 9, 2022, police found the body of 54-year-old James Orlando Harris in Portland, Oregon. Initially responding to a report of "suspicious circumstances," officers discovered James's body in a sleeping bed dumped in some bushes off the highway. The autopsy revealed he died from a hammer blow to the head and strangulation with a dog leash, likely on October 4, days before his body was found.

Who could have done this? The investigation soon pointed to Zachary Hackman, who had just returned from a vacation with his girlfriend's family. His girlfriend, Lara Jean Harris, also came back from a concert when Zach, who sometimes went by the alias Zach Call, called her to help him "clean out some trash." Unbeknownst to her, she was helping him dispose of her father's body.

LaraJean didn't call the police out of fear for her safety. However, police eventually discovered James' body due to an unrelated suspicious circumstance report. The investigation, initially for a suspicious death, turned into a homicide case after the medical examiner's report confirmed "homicidal violence."

Surveillance footage showed Zachary covering James' kitchen window with a towel on the day of the murder and later, with LaraJean, carrying a heavy container to her car. LaraJean claimed she had no idea she was disposing of her father's body and didn't call the police out of fear for her life. She was not charged, but Zachary was arrested on October 23, 2023, and charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and abuse of a corpse.

Following a plea agreement, Zachary was sentenced to 17 years for first-degree manslaughter and an additional two years for abuse of a corpse. He will also serve three years of post-prison supervision upon release. Despite the severity of his crimes, Zachary has never given a motive for the murder.

What do you think about the sentence? Why was it labeled manslaughter and not murder? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

True Crime Tuesday | Mom Causes Son's Bully to go to Hospital | Jennifer Lynn Rossi

True Crime Tuesday | Mom Causes Son's Bully to go to Hospital | Jennifer Lynn Rossi

In today's true crime Tuesday episode of Love and Murder: Heartbreak to Homicide, Ky delves into the case of Jennifer Lynn Rossi, a mother arrested for concocting a drink for her child to give to a school bully. On March 5, 2024, Bexar County Sheriff's deputies were called to Legacy Traditional School in San Antonio, Texas, after a child fell ill from drinking a mixture of lemon, salt, and vinegar. The drink, prepared by Jennifer, was intended to deter the bully from taking her son's drinks. Instead, it sent the bully to the hospital with headaches and nausea.

Jennifer was arrested and charged with injury to a child causing bodily injury. The case raises serious questions about parental responsibility and the appropriate way to handle bullying.

Poll Question:Do you think parents should face criminal charges if they encourage their children to retaliate against school bullies in ways that cause harm?
