A recent judgment in the case of "Abhilasha Vs Prakash" (Criminal Appeal No. 615 of 2020) was decided by Hon'ble Supreme Court. Bench comprising of Ashok Bhushan, J. R. Subhash Reddy, J. & M.R. SHAH, J.

After interpreting Section 125 of CrPC, 1973 and Section 20(3) of the Hindu Adoptions & Maintenance Act, 1956, it is held by the Hon'ble Supreme Court that under Section 20(3) of the Hindu Adoptions & Maintenance Act, 1956 - an unmarried Hindu daughter can claim maintenance from her father, provided she pleads and proves that she is unable to maintain herself.
