Who will be Washington's most important contributors in 2024?

Who will be Washington's most important contributors in 2024?

As Jedd Fisch prepares for his first year as the Washington Huskies' head coach, he has to replace nearly all of Washington's major contributors from the 2023 run to the national championship, namely Michael Penix Jr., Rome Odunze, Ja'Lynn Polk, and other stars who left for the NFL draft. Through the depth left on the roster and the transfer portal, Fisch's coaching staff will turn to players like Carson Bruener, Drew Azzopardi, Zach Durfee, Will Rogers, Denzel Boston, Jonah Coleman, and more to step up and become leading contributors on the 2024 team as Washington adapts to life in the Big Ten.

Washington adds two potential starters in the transfer portal

Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies added two starters over the weekend from the transfer portal, getting some much-needed depth along the offensive line in former Maryland offensive lineman and junior college All-American Maximus McCree, while Sacramento State safety Cameron Broussard appears ready to make a big impact in defensive coordinator Steve Belichick's scheme. UW Basketball coach Danny Sprinkle also rounded out his roster with a commitment from North Dakota guard Tyree Iheneacho who takes up the final scholarship spot for the Huskies' new head coach.

Washington mailbag: Recruiting, offensive line, College Football 25

Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies have a lot of things to address this offseason, with a need for more offensive linemen and a quarterback in the transfer portal and plenty of holes to fill in the 2025 recruiting class which could be filled by players like four-star players wide receiver Chris Lawson, edge rusher CJ May, safety Ladarian Clardy, offensive lineman Douglas Utu, linebacker Christan Thatcher, and more. The Huskies will also be a popular team to use in EA Sports' NCAA Football 25, and could have some of its best players in wide receivers Denzel Boston and Jeremiah Hunter, quarterback Will Rogers, and linebacker Carson Bruener.

Washington is reloading the secondary in a major way

The Washington Huskies are reportedly close to earning a commitment from Sacramento State safety Cameron Broussard, who made the All-Big Sky first team last season and would be a big acquisition for Jedd Fisch's team and Steve Belichick's defense, adding great depth to the secondary and earning a win over the Michigan Wolverines on the recruiting trail. Washington's top overall target in the 2025 class, five-star cornerback Dijon Lee, also cut his list to four schools on Thursday: Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, and Washington, which will be an important gauge of success as cornerbacks coach John Richardson and Washington's entire staff pushes to secure his commitment.

The Washington Huskies continue to search for offensive line help

The Washington Huskies still need help along the offensive line, and head coach Jedd Fisch and offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll have handed out some offers, including to junior college All-American Maximus McCree, who is expected to take an official visit to Seattle soon and four-star 2025 prospect Malachi Goodman. Fisch's staff is also vying after some of the nation's top prospects who are including the Huskies in their final lists, including the transfer portal's top available wide receiver Elijhah Badger, four-star linebacker Zaydrius Rainey-Sale, three-star cornerback LaRue Zamorano, and three-star safety Rylon Dillard-Allen.

Washington has changed the NIL landscape

The Washington Huskies changed the landscape of NIL when agreeing to a $2 million deal with one of the best college basketball players in the transfer portal, Great Osobor, and it won't just affect basketball. The deal will also certainly affect Jedd Fisch and the UW football team as the Huskies continue to look for offensive line help and quarterback depth in the transfer portal following the conclusion of spring practice before their first season in the Big Ten.
