    Resynator Interview - Alison Tavel

    Resynator Interview - Alison Tavel

Resynator is the documentary feature which won the audience award at the 2024 SXSW film festival and now it's captivating audiences at the 2024 Seattle International Film Festival. A story about a young woman finding the Synthesiser her father built 25 years prior, director Alison Tavel explores the man behind the machine as she interviews his friends and family in hopes of discovering who he really was. Alison's father Don passed shortly after her birth and though she grew up with a terrific family, there was always more to her father's story that she felt she was never told and during her journey to discover that she also ends up learning more about herself along the way. This documentary feature is incredibly engaging and speaks to the power of vulnerability and how much it can really help heal people as well. I had the great pleasure of talking with Writer/Director Alison Tavel about her journey in making the film and dissecting familial relationships in an effort to better understand our parents and other generations. Due to the length of the interview I’ve included a summary of some of the discussion points below and will link the full audio conversation through various platforms right below here as well.

Bob Trevino Likes It Interview - Tracie Laymon

Bob Trevino Likes It Interview - Tracie Laymon

Bob Trevino Likes It won the audience award at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival and after having a chance to see it at SIFF 2024 I can completely understand how it captured the hearts and minds of the audiences. It's a beautiful look at a young woman who's real father abandons her and the friendship she creates with a kindhearted man who shares her father's name on Facebook. Inspired by writer/director Tracie Laymon's real life experience, Bob Trevino Likes It bears its soul and tells an unbelievably uplifting story of chosen family and learning to choose what's best for yourself in your own life. This year at the Seattle International Film Festival I was fortunate enough to speak with Tracie Laymon and had the absolute best time learning more about the experience behind Bob Trevino Likes It.

Chasing Time Interview - Jeff Orlowski-Yang & Sarah Keo

Chasing Time Interview - Jeff Orlowski-Yang & Sarah Keo

For SIFF 2024 I had the esteemed pleasure of getting to interview Chasing Time co-directors Jeff Orlowski-Yang and Sarah Keo. A 40-minute documentary short that serves as a companion piece to Orlowski-Yang's 2012 film Chasing Ice, Chasing Time examines the data behind the melting of glaciers worldwide and reunites Orlowski-Yang with Jame Balog, the founder of the Extreme Ice Survey. Equal parts beautiful and devastating, this short packs an emotional punch as the evidence is irrefutable and the human story at the core of the film is incredibly enduring. This was such a great discussion to be a part of I would urge any who listen to see out Chasing Ice and that you keep an eye out for Chasing Time.

Thelma Interview - Josh Margolin, June Squibb & Fred Hechinger

Thelma Interview - Josh Margolin, June Squibb & Fred Hechinger

Thelma was the opening night film for the 50th Anniversary of the Seattle International Film Festival. A film about a grandmother who gets scammed and goes on independent ops to get her money back, Thelma touches on the way we view age and how it's okay to be vulnerable when asking for help. I had the great privilege of sitting down with Director and Writer Josh Margolin, as well as stars June Squibb and Fred Hechinger. The conversation was as lovely as the film is and I'm so excited to share it with you in advance of the film's release!

The Fall Guy (2024) - Movie Review

The Fall Guy (2024) - Movie Review

The Fall Guy makes for a lovely and entertaining romantic comedy, but it fails to achieve its full potential as a stunt work showcase for Hollywood’s unsung action heroes. For months now, many in the film and online community have heralded The Fall Guy as a love letter to the old action films Hollywood used to make and they’ve claimed that it honors the men and women who beat their bodies up to make the stars look great on camera. This reaction had me quite excited because action choreography is such an overlooked art that has long deserved recognition from the Academy Awards, and the bonus is that this film is helmed by someone who’s been an integral part in 21st century film action. There are a multitude of reasons why this film could have been something truly special but leave it to Hollywood to shift focus to where they think the money is.
