Lakers Center Options | Lakers Free Agency 2024

Lakers Center Options | Lakers Free Agency 2024

    #Lakers Center Options | #LakersFreeAgency 2024

The Los Angeles Lakers could have a lengthy to-do list for the 2024 NBA offseason.

They probably won't get much of it done during free agency.

Spending money could be tight or non-existent. And if it isn't, the Lakers could have even bigger problems to deal with, as that likely means LeBron James declined his player option and bolted out of town.

Free agency isn't the place where the Lakers can make radical changes this summer—they'd need to hit the trade market to make that happen—but they do have some things to accomplish.

Lakers are in need of another big man to support Anthony Davis, and veteran center Jonas Valanciunas from the Pelicans could be a viable option in the upcoming NBA free agency.

Valanciunas averaged 12.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game this season. He also recorded 33 double-doubles and had a standout game scoring 29 points and grabbing 13 boards.

The Lakers signed Drummond after he was bought out by the Cavaliers in March 2021. The two-time All-Star was still a starter and clinging to the end of his prime. LA needed talent, and the 6’11 big man was eager to play with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Drummond replaced Marc Gasol as the Lakers starting center. He averaged 11.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 block in 24.8 minutes per game over 21 contests. Drummond remained their starting center in the playoffs before being benched in the decisive Game 6 against the Suns.

Drummond is still one of the best rebounders in the league and has settled in as a backup center. If the Lakers want size and options in defending Nikola Jokic and the big-man trio in Minnesota, signing Drummond makes perfect sense. He could play 15 to 20 minutes off the bench and make a larger impact in specific matchups.

The 6’11 big man had interest in returning to the Lakers and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. LA will be limited in what they can offer, but Andre Drummond may take less to join a contender. Do not rule out this reunion.

Xavier Tillman is another option for LA to back up or play alongside AD too. Plus LA can get Tillman for less on the market.

Dwight Howard isn't giving up on his hopes of returning to the NBA, even if it means making a plea to Los Angeles Lakers governor Jeanie Buss to sign him via song.

Howard has not made it a secret he still pays close attention to everything involving the Lakers. He had a post on X after Game 4 of their playoff series against the Denver Nuggets that the Lakers won to avoid being swept that made it seem like he believed they could pull off a miracle.

Howard hasn't played in the NBA since the last stint with the Lakers. He spent one season with the Taoyuan Leopards in 2022-23.

Despite lobbying for a job in the NBA last summer by saying he could play for "at least 15 to 20 teams," Howard went unsigned before agreeing to a deal with Mets de Guaynabo of Puerto Rico's Baloncesto Superior Nacional in March.

After getting roasted in a playoff series for the second straight year by Nikola Jokić, maybe Howard's pleas will be heard and the Lakers will sign him hoping he can be the Joker stopper.

So Z Nation, which center option should the Lakers target in free agency???

Lakers Off-Season Plans 2024 | Lakers Coaching Search |Lakers Trade Targets | NBA Free Agency Needs

With the Lakers out of the playoffs after being eliminated by the Nuggets on Monday, the focus quickly turns to improving this team in the offseason.

When the Lakers didn't make a move during the NBA trade deadline this season, vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka mentioned "making a much bigger and impactful movement potentially in June and July."

Well, it's still a month before we reach the summer, but it seems Pelinka and the Lakers still share the sentiment that they will push to get better this offseason. Shams Charania, Jovan Buha and Sam Amick of The Athletic reported on the current approach the Lakers will be taking heading into the summer.

The Lakers have three first-round picks (and five second-rounders) to trade on draft night, including no. 17 overall in 2024.

The Lakers have long been linked to Kyrie Irving and Atlanta Hawks guards/Klutch clients Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, and Mikal Bridges are names to watch, too.

Lakers Coaching Search Candidates | Tyronn Lue & JJ Redick Among Potential Head Coaching Candidates

#Lakers #CoachingSearch Candidates | #TyronnLue & JJ Redick Among Potential Head Coaching Candidates

The Los Angeles Lakers seem to be heading towards another coaching search as reports indicate that head coach Darvin Ham is expected to be let go after two seasons.

Finding a quality head coach has been a problem for the Lakers as they have already had six of them since Phil Jackson retired in 2011 and now will likely be looking for a seventh. Since Jackson, Luke Walton has coached the most games for the Lakers and he only lasted three seasons.

One of the biggest mistakes the Lakers made in recent years was not bringing in Tyronn Lue to replace Walton in 2019 despite LeBron James’ wishes.

It appears they may have another chance to make that happen though as ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported on the Dan Patrick Show that Lue and JJ Redick are among the candidates once the Lakers start looking for a new coach.

Lue obviously has a history with James dating back to their time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, so if the Lakers are trying to keep their star happy and avoid him leaving this summer then Lue should be their top option.

While Lue is still currently the head coach of the L.A. Clippers, they are on the verge of a first round exit and he does not have a long-term contract, leading many to believe a parting of ways is possible.

Redick is also someone that has a close relationship with James after starting a podcast together earlier in this year. He recently interviewed for the Charlotte Hornets job so seems to be interested in getting into coaching.

Once the Lakers make news official that Ham will be let go, they can begin their coaching search, likely interviewing a number of candidates with Lue and Redick seeming to be firmly in the mix.

So Z Nation, who should the Lakers target as the next head coach???

Lakers Media Day 2023 BREAKDOWN | Lakers Winning Mentality | Lakers Training Camp

    #LakersMediaDay BREAKDOWN | #Lakers Winning Mentality | Lakers #TrainingCamp Expectations

The vibes were light, loose and confident for LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers at 2023-24 Media Day.

The Lakers are proceeding one day at a time, but they'll at least open training camp as an inarguable championship contender, armed with versatile, culture-fitting players either locked into contracts or playing for new ones. The roster is fully-healthy, balanced, and cohesive around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The coaching staff is respected.

Lakers' Depth Chart, Rotation After 2023 NBA Free Agency

Lakers' Depth Chart, Rotation After 2023 NBA Free Agency

#Lakers' #DepthChart, Rotation After 2023 NBA Free Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers might still have a move in them during the 2023 NBA offseason, but they have largely assembled what they hope will be a championship roster.

They eschewed more flashy pursuits to focus instead on building continuity and depth. While they overhauled a big chunk of their supporting cast, they also kept most of the primary contributors to their recent Western Conference finals run.

They'll head into #TrainingCamp with a few position battles worth watching, but as things stand, we have a decent idea of how coach Darvin Ham will handle the depth chart during the 2023-24 campaign.

Point guard: D'Angelo Russell, Gabe Vincent, Jalen Hood-Schifino

Shooting guard: Austin Reaves, Max Christie

Small forward: Rui Hacimura, Taurean Prince, Cam Reddish, Maxwell Lewis

Power forward: LeBron James, Jarred Vanderbilt

    Center: Anthony Davis, Jaxson Hayes

So Z Nation, what do you think about the Lakers depth chart and rotation ideas heading into next season???
