#11: Dogecoin – Who let the Doge out?
Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency created in 2013 as a joke by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer. It was intended to make fun of the wild speculation in cryptocurrencies at the time. Since then, it has built a huge following and demand and now has a market capitalization of $68B. Along the way, it made multiple millionaires, Including a Goldman Sachs managing director who recently left the investment bank after reportedly making millions by investing in the cryptocurrency. What started as a joke has now become a phenomenon too important to ignore. With a surge in demand for trading the coin, it has caused outages on trading platforms such as Robinhood. And the hype has now inspired the creation of many other dog theme coins, and it seems that this is just the beginning. So what is the hype around this cryptocurrency, and How did Dogecoin become so popular?
