Ep. 3: Getting Paid To Write - Jared Dubin

I’m Wes Goldberg and you’re listening to All The Right Things, the podcast where I talk with the best writers, bloggers, freelancers, media professionals about their journey, their craft and their advice for those hoping to make a living like they do.

On this episode I talk with Jared Dubin (@JADubin5) -- a freelance writer whose work has appeared at VICE, ESPN, Grantland, Sports Illustrated, CBS and other outlets. Jared lives in New York, where he writes full time. He’s been published virtually everywhere, and at this point has become well versed at how to pitch stories as a freelancer.

Ep. 2: How To Find Your Niche – Chris Reichert

Ep. 2: How To Find Your Niche – Chris Reichert

I’m Wes Goldberg and you’re listening to All The Right Things, the podcast where I talk with the best writers, bloggers, freelancers, media professionals about their journey, their craft and their advice for those hoping to make a living like they do.

Your listening to the second episode. And if you’re wondering who I am, I’m a freelance sports writers and podcaster, obviously, trying to make a job out of what I love. One of the reasons I started this podcast is to help me do that, and while I’m at it I’ll help you.

On today’s Episode I talk with Chris Reichert. Chris has created a niche for himself as a foremost expert on the NBA’s D-League.

Finding a niche is incredibly important in today’s crowded sports writing scene, and I talked with Chris about how he found his niche and has made a name for himself. In fact, Chris recently got a shout out from Brent Barry during the live broadcast of the NBA’s D-League All-Star game on NBATV.

There’s a reason I wanted to make this one of my first episodes, and that’s because Chris’s mindset of how to find his niche and then fully commit to it, is something I encourage all writers to think about. You can follow Chris on Twitter @Chris_Reichert and read his work at The Step Back. Thank you for listening to All The Right Things.

Ep. 1: The Importance Of Networking And Curiosity – Ian Levy

I’m Wes Goldberg and you’re listening to All The Right Things, the podcast where I talk with the best writers, bloggers, freelancers, media professionals about their journey, their craft and their advice for those hoping to make a living like they do.

Your listening to the very first episode. And if you’re wondering who I am, I’m a freelance sports writers and podcaster, obviously, trying to make a job out of what I love. One of the reasons I started this podcast is to help me do that, and while I’m at it I’ll help you.

On today’s episode I talk with Ian Levy, he’s the senior NBA editor and columnist for FanSided and runs its NBA vertical called The Step Back.

Ian has written for sites such VICE and Five Thirty Eight in the past, and is one of the good guys. He’s always extremely generous with his time and willing to offer advice or edits. He’s one of my go-tos when I’m working on a piece or have an idea I want to try out.

So when I asked him to be my first guest on the podcast, he agreed. So, without further adu, here’s All The Right Things with my guest Ian Levy.
