It is in examining our own nature and in particular that of our relationship with Mother, as an archetype, as a role, as the person who birthed us, as the planet we inhabit, that we can begin to create seismic change - within ourselves and in the world. The purpose of this podcast is to assist in shifting the paradigm around what it is to mother and to be mothered in cultures across the world. To let go of the shame and the shoulds and to help us free ourselves within the prima materia that is Mother.

    When the Dolphins Cry

    When the Dolphins Cry

What if we shifted perspective in our relationship with Mother Earth to that of lover, rather than mother? What if we honored and cherished and lavished gifts on her like we would a new mate? What if the relationship was reciprocal rather than one sided? When the dolphins came both in a dream and IRL, I began to pay attention.

    The Mother in the Mirror

    The Mother in the Mirror

As we approach Mother’s Day, can we sit with how we feel about our relationship with our own mother, our relationship with our children and our relationship with how we mother ourselves and address what we’re being shown by our triggers in these relationships? It may be the hardest work we ever do. But it can have the greatest payoff in our lives and in the lives of every single being we encounter for the rest of our lives. A Heartbreaking Gift of Love - Alana Helapitage

A Heartbreaking Gift of Love - Alana Helapitage

While I’ve not known her long, Alana Helapitage does seem to truly walk her talk. In our rich and honest conversation, she shared her story of fully loving and then losing a mothering relationship with the daughter of a former partner and how she has bravely faced the prospect of never again seeing this child that she raised as her own.

From experience, Alana recommends that anyone entering a potential step-parent dynamic have conversations as to what you have the capacity and the desire to sustain in a relationship with the child(ren), even more importantly than the focus on the partnership relationship itself. From her perspective, if there is a child in front of her, they are the most important person in the room and in the relationship as a whole.

If only we were all raised with a bit more of this loving kind of attention…

Alana describes herself as an artist, poet and trauma alchemist and in that work she seeks to disrupt the lie that we have to constantly chase better versions of ourself.
