    EP023: Broncho interview

    EP023: Broncho interview

Tornado watching, queso and the merits of Kokomo - browsing the mind of Broncho’s Ryan Lindsey.

Broncho are a collection of unshowered indie wastrels from around the Oklahoma City area of the southern central state. Their sound is characterised by hooky, brick-thick fuzz and Ryan’s partially-obscured, mumbled lyrics. Since their jangled-up Ramones-speed debut, 2013’s Can’t Get Past The Lips, they’ve made an art form of infectious melodic chug.

Matt and Ryan sat down to talk, in typically roundabout fashion, about the musical character’s of Ryan’s home state, Suzuki sleigh riding and European vs. US cheese scenes.

    EP022: Lawrence Arabia interview

    EP022: Lawrence Arabia interview

Outsider syndrome, New Zealand as the liberal idyll and is truth factual? It’s EP022 with Lawrence Arabia!

Lawrence Arabia AKA James Milne is a singer-songwriter from Christchurch, New Zealand with an ear for skewed indie pop melodies and an ability to write cuttingly insightful, darkly humorous lyrics.

He has released four albums, spent time living in the UK and New York and appears to be able to conjure awe-inspiring harmonic arrangements from the lifeless air.

His most recent album is 2016’s Absolute Truth, which (we’re near-obligated to say) was released on legendary New Zealand label Flying Nun Records and represents a slightly less playful, more mature sound for the songwriter.

Matt and James sat down to talk about his musical past and present, growing up on the edge of the earth and surviving the modern world.

    EP021: Nothing interview

    EP021: Nothing interview

Inspiration, tragedy and flour-bombing junkies - all in our interview with the incredible Nothing!

Dominic ‘Nicky’ Palermo was raised in the 90s in Kensington, Philadelphia, at the time the heroin capital of the US. Having navigated a maze of hardcore bands, disrupted family life and stints in prison, Nicky managed to pull together Nothing – ultimately the project that saved him.

The band make heavy shoe gaze music – a soundtrack to stoned hangovers, regret and drunken euphoria. Nicky’s a self-confessed self-destructor and he documents his experiences and grimly humorous take on life in brutally bare bones lyrics, obscuring them behind washes of colourful distortion.

Second album Tired Of Tomorrow (released in May) is already one of our favourites of the year. Matt caught up with Nicky to speak in-depth about his teenage years in Kensington, selected bad decisions and the human capacity to adapt to almost anything.
