Hard Shots by Six Pack Philosophy is a shorter show about the philisophical side of politics and news in America. In Six Pack Philosophy we take a regular weekly dive into politics and Philosophy. In Hard Shots we take a more freestyle approach to the issues and put out less timeless shows on more specific issues at irregular intervals. American politics were first developed as a political philosophy discussed in taverns between great men over great beers. Join us as we discuss history, politics, economics, philosophy, and beer. References for the history and philosophy discussed in the show are posted on our website. Let's take politics back to the philisophical roots it came from.

Neil Carrick: Adult Adoption - Hard Shots

Neil Carrick: Adult Adoption - Hard Shots

    Welcome back friend-of-the-show, Neil Carrick.

In this episode, Neil brings us a real life perspective of the impact of state overreach when it comes to agreements between two consenting adults. Marriage isn’t the only place where the state has decided to interject itself into the affairs of grown adults trying to do what they want, but now they’ve stuck their nose in adult adoption as well. People can understandably disagree with how much or little the state should have to do with the adoption of children, but when we’re talking about fully functioning, consenting adults, what’s the point of it all?

    Trump’s Fired, What’s Next? - Hard Shots

    Trump’s Fired, What’s Next? - Hard Shots

Will the most recent attempt to get rid of Trump gain any traction?

First of all, if you’ve already heard our episode on presidential impact, you know that even though 45 is a complete dumb ass, we can be fairly well assured that he will likely only have a short term impact on the country’s overall trajectory. Despite that, there is still a large swath of people whose goal is to kick Trump out of office early. First they tried to say he didn’t really win the election, then they tried to say he violated the emoluments clause (not that most of them had even the slightest idea what they were talking about there), and now they’re hoping they can inspire a mutiny in his cabinet. So with this newest movement, we’re taking a look at what it takes to actually succeed, and what the impacts of invoking the 25th could have in the near and distant future.

    Destroying History - Hard Shots

    Destroying History - Hard Shots

With all of the controversy over leaving up or tearing down statues, we decided to weigh in.

Part of what we look at in this episode are the reasons that many of those statues were put up to begin with and whether or not moving them to museums is really an act of destroying or hiding from our history as many have claimed. We’ll also discuss what people’s expressed motivations are in removing them or keeping them up as well as this whole situations impact on a heightened level of national unrest? It’s easy to see that people on both sides of this issue are upset, but is it really over statues or have we reached a point of unrest that any action by anyone is perceived as some sort of threat that requires retaliation?

Paradox Of Tolerance - Hard Shots

Paradox Of Tolerance - Hard Shots

Is intolerance of intolerance the only way a tolerant society can thrive?

One of our listeners presented to us the paradox of tolerance as an aspect of our most recent free speech episode that we didn’t explore, so we’re dedicating a whole hard shot to it. The paradox was developed by Karl Popper in the 1940’s as arguably the greatest intolerance of the 20th century was coming to a threatening head. However, in the light of groups like antifa and the alt-right springing up seemingly all over the place, it becomes relevant again to ask how tolerant we must be of intolerance.

Interview: Cedar Creek Brewery Crew - Hard Shots

Interview: Cedar Creek Brewery Crew - Hard Shots

Not only did we get to party and record a live show, but we also had the pleasure of interviewing several members of the awesome Cedar Creek Crew.

As East Texas’ first craft brewery, the team at Cedar Creek has some great stories to share during our interview. While Jim Elliott, the top dog, was on the mic, we got to hear a lot about how the brewery started, and once he brought on some of the other team mates, we got to talk about what it’s like working there, how they found it, and why they love it. On top of all the sentimental stuff, we finally got to get down to business and talk about the beer, their favorites, their first, and where they rank on the date scale. Have a listen and enjoy!
