Tape #28: Natural Born Killers (feat. Archie)

Tape #28: Natural Born Killers (feat. Archie)

On this special episode, we are joined by Archie, a returning friend of the pod, to take another trip back to the crazy 90's and talk about the wild film Natural Born Killers!

It's a frenzied, psychedelic onslaught of violence with satirical takes on American culture, the media and sensationalism of said violence. The film is like a fierce storm of frightening, surreal and hypnotic imagery that just doesn't let up. Is it deep or dumb? You decide!

Susan's recommendation for next episode: What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? (1962)

Music in this episode taken from the Natural Born Killers soundtrack.

Intro music: "Waiting For The Miracle" by Leonard Cohen

Outro music: "The Future" by Leonard Cohen

In what may be our shortest episode of the podcast ever, we talk about two Canadian horror films: American Mary & Ginger Snaps! While American Mary may have some good ideas and concepts, does it execute them well? And is Ginger Snaps deserving of the cult following it has? Tune in to find out!

Armand's recommendation for next episode: Natural Born Killers (1994)

Intro music: "Ginger Claps" by Machine Girl

Outro music: "Out By 16, Dead On The Scene" by Machine Girl

Tape #26: Nope & They Live

We're back after taking another goddamned leave of absence for a month! Again, we're sincerely sorry for the wait. A lot has happened in the past month, which will discuss in the episode, but I think we can finally get back on track with our regular schedule moving forward.

On this episode, we're diving deep into Jordan Peele's new summer blockbuster film "Nope" and we also talk about the classic John Carpenter film "They Live"! That's right, we're tag teaming 2 alien flicks back to back! Of course, HUGE SPOILER WARNING for Nope because we ain't holding back on this one folks.

Susan's recommendation for next episode: Ginger Snaps (2000) & American Mary (2012)

Go check out Armand's new music! doku.bandcamp.com

Tape #25: The Love Witch & Audition (feat. Susan) / A Major Update

Tape #25: The Love Witch & Audition (feat. Susan) / A Major Update

We're back after being away for almost a whole month! Again, we're so sorry for delaying yet another episode. As you can tell by the title, we have some major life updates that will affect the show moving forward. All will be explained in this episode.

We're gathered here again with Susan (who is now pretty much a co-host of the show) to discuss a film that is described as a campy, satirical homage to late 60's technicolor B-movies: The Love Witch. It's a very fitting film for the time we're living in as it dissects heteronormative relationships and gender roles/dynamics and how they affect women.

We also catch up on some other movies we saw over this past month such as Audition & Neptune Frost. Plenty of things to discuss in this episode, so don't skip a second!

    Timecodes:

    0:00 Intro

    2:41 The Love Witch [SPOILERS]

    29:55 Audition [SPOILERS]

    55:30 Lost Highway 4K restoration

    57:27 Neptune Frost

1:00:51 The Secret Of NIMH & Don Bluth

    1:04:02 The world is hell

1:08:23 Armand's life update / Major update for the show

1:19:55 Armand recommends Ichi The Killer (2001) for next episode

Intro music taken from the Audition soundtrack

Outro music is "Think Like They Book Say" by Saul Williams

Tape #24: The Social Network (feat. Susan)

Tape #24: The Social Network (feat. Susan)

On this episode, we are joined again by returning friend Susan to talk about the very well made biopic The Social Network. Not gonna lie folks, we were very procrastinated and scatterbrained in this episode and we ended up rambling about crazy things. Even if the convo is distracted at times, it still was a fun discussion and I think y'all will enjoy this one. What are your weird ass experiences with social media growing up? Please let us know.

Susan's film recommendation for next episode: The Love Witch (2016)

Music featured in this episode is taken from The Social Network soundtrack.

Tape #23: Hiruko The Goblin (feat. Jules The Nintendo Boy & Trace)

[Heads up: the audio quality is not the best in this episode. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.]

On this week's episode, we're joined by returning furry friend Jules The Nintendo Boy as well as a newcomer named Trace to discuss a little Japanese horror film called Hiruko The Goblin, directed by the innovative Japanese filmmaker Shinya Tsukamoto! Tsukamoto's claim to fame was making a lil' small budget cyberpunk body horror film known as Tetsuo: The Iron Man. After gaining notoriety for making one of the most craziest films in the world, he was able to make his first proper studio film Hiruko The Goblin, which is based on a manga titled Yokai Hunter.

How does the film hold up in comparison to Tetsuo? What does Tsukamoto uniquely bring to the table with this film? All will be answered in this episode!

Intro music from Hiruko The Goblin

Outro music: Estoc - Skrap Yardz Tool (from DJ David Goblin's Ork Muzik 20K)
