Hi everyone! Alex and Max here. We're two young activists who are fairly new to the political world, recently energized by Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign. Although we're sad he came up short, we're incredibly proud of that movement and genuinely impressed by the things it was able to accomplish. With that in mind, we started Sometimes People Win, a podcast that looks at the anatomy of mass movements and how people in a democratic society can band together and fight for change - and win. Join us as we look into a new movement every episode to figure out how it worked and learn about the tools and strategies it used to win real victories for everyday people. We hope that documenting these movements will help you learn from their successes and apply their techniques in your movement or campaign.

Episode 1: Stopping a Suburban Development

Alex and Max discuss the ridiculous Florida weather and highlight the recent "No Justice, No Pride" movement in our first "Movement Highlight" segment. They then look into the 2013-2016 movement to stop the Lake Pickett developments in East Orange County, Florida. Alex talks to Orange County Commissioner Emily Bonilla, who started the movement to pressure the county government and then made a successful run to unseat the incumbent commissioner, who wasn't responsive to the pressure.

Special thanks to Music by David Fau for the fantastic instrumentals!
